On the 18th February I posted news that the most intense Solar Flare of the year had taken place in....an R2 Period! and followed this up a couple of days later with a report that on the 21st February that there was a Tropical Storm power up changing the level of a Cyclone to CAT 2. This crude indicator was used to demonstrate an increase of Solar Activity in the Earth's atmosphere, probably due to the development of SunSpot AR1678.
After contacting Piers Corbyn about this development, he agreed that the Tropical Storm "power up" may well have pointed to his original forecast underestimating this period, and that with the benefit of hindsight the period should have been at least an "R4" period and NOT "R3".
As there was an expectation of storm enhancements to take place around the world in this time frame due to the Solar Activity, I noticed in Southern Europe there were the effects of a "Cut Off" low going on due to changes in the Jet Stream location. As expected this brought some major storm development for the Mediterranean areas. We will never know for sure if these events were made worse as a result of being in an "R4" period. One thing is for certain...the more these events are found to be in high level "R" periods the more likely there are the results of Solar activity and NOT from "Man Made" co2.
Although this is not an exact science there were in fact several major weather events just after this Tropical Storm "power up", a major flood incident in Athens, Greece, also another one In Italy and not forgetting the second blizzard to hit the USA, all three events happened at the same time, and no doubt there were others of a similar nature in other parts of the world.
The next "forecast" period event from Piers Corbyn is in a couple of days and as you can see from the above chart he has put it up to an "R5" level, so once again I will be posting news of a Solar Event and Tropical Storm "power up"...more to follow soon.
This is the latest news report from SpaceWeather.com about a coronal hole development, the timing of this event would indicate the "R5" period is on target
CORONAL HOLE - SpaceWeather.com: A dark gap in the sun's atmosphere--a "coronal hole"--has opened up, and it is spewing a stream of solar wind into space. NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) photographed the opening during the early hours of Feb 24th:
Wondering about the colors in this image? This is how the sun looks through SDO's extreme UV filters.
Coronal holes are places where the sun's magnetic field opens up and allows the solar wind to escape. A stream of solar wind flowing from this particular coronal hole is expected to reach Earth on or about March 2nd.
