Racing facing yet another freeze in this winter of discontent for the sport

Twelve blank days for jump racing ends on Saturday but a long-range forecaster who predicted the January snow back in July believes it will only be a brief respite for the sport.
The forecasts of Piers Corbyn, who runs weatheraction.com, will fill trainers preparing Cheltenham Festival prospects with dread.
Kempton and Huntingdon, providing the latter survives an 8am inspection, race, Ffos Las on Sunday and the outlook is optimistic for Fakenham and Plumpton on Monday.
But Corbyn, whose projections are based on magnetic and particle activity of the sun, warned: ‘We have a slow partial thaw but the cold air will return on Monday and Tuesday and carry on until the 24th.
Then there will be a bigger thaw for a week before just about the whole of February turns very cold.
‘There will be hiccups and a north-south split at times but it will be much colder than normal. You need a long thaw before you can get back to racing. I can’t see that happening to any extent until into March.’
Corbyn’s forecast will strike home particularly in the north where the last jumps meeting was on December 12
