These two Front Page Headline articles from the Daily Express by Nathan Rao only have a few days between them....this is what Jonathan Powell had to say about HIS May forecast on the Daily Express on the 15th May "It looks like this is going to continue well into June. Summer is really on hold, with no sign of it in the near future... and on the right also by Nathan Rao from the Daily Express on the 19th MayJonathan Powell had this to say.. “We will get a glimpse of summer next week with temperatures reaching 73F in the South.
It's little wonder people don't take longe range weather forecast seriously....I can't help but think if being a long range weather forecaster saying cold one day and then hot another is such a difficult thing to do.....is that why the Daily Express promote him and is that why Jonathan Powell's Positive Weather service stopped last year only to start again this year as Jonathan Powell Vantage Weather Services?
Jonathan Powell went on to say the following about the rest of May and the Summer in the UK
Jonathan Powell, forecaster with Vantage Weather Services, said: “We will get a glimpse of summer next week with temperatures reaching 73F in the South. It is going to turn cool again after that, but this extremely cold May is a precursor to some extremely hot spells during the summer.”
He said temperatures could rocket to 80F by the end of next month with a run of heatwaves likely.
“The extremes we are experiencing in May mean it is likely to swing the other way in the summer.
“We are stuck in the realms of extremes this year and there is no reason to think it should not be the same situation after this cold snap. We may well have some extreme weather events over the summer, with some very hot temperatures on the way.”
Mr Powell said the UK could bask in similar conditions to those seen at the beginning of October when the mercury soared to 86F.
Blasts of very hot weather will be tempered by cooler spells and the chance of torrential downpours and thunderstorms.
“It might be that we will just have to wait a little bit longer for summer this year,” he added....Click the above Daily Express link for the 19th May to read FULL report from Nathan Rao.
Piers Corbyn had this to say in the comments section of yesterdays Daily Express:
The same was said by a number of experts about last summer, and the one before, and the one before and..yes all the way back to 2007, and you know what happened! The rest is history!
Readers should note that standard meteorologists - MetOffice and others - have consistently been overestimating warmthin the UK. We, WeatherAction, have said NOTHING in public about this summer.
The Met Office are unable to give a two week ahead forecast for HM's Diamond Jubilee so we have stepped in to fill the breach - see WeatherAction site for information and links.
