By JAMES H. 'SMOKEY" SHOTT — Proponents of man-made global warming say that burning fossil fuels to produce electricity, power manufacturing processes and fuel motor vehicles is seriously harming the environment. However recent evidence shows that to be a flawed theory.

Data shows that the earth cooled last year rather than warmed, following a trend that began in 2000, and in light of this evidence much of the doomsday talk has quieted down. However, while activists still cling to their flawed theory, they have replaced the term “global warming” with “climate change,” using the same theory to now account for any change that occurs, warming or cooling.

Scientists do not speak with one voice on this issue. Ivar Giaever is a Nobel Laureate in physics, and is one of 650 dissenting scientists who argued against this theory at the United Nations global warming conference in Poland last December. “I am a skeptic,” he said. “Global warming has become a new religion.”

I like to think what we say on this site is also found on impartial and non AGW bias sites, but how wrong can you be.

I was doing some research for one of our new site's (yes one of our new site's) SolarCycle25.Com (SC25.Com) and thought I would check out some data on the "Dalton Minimum" using good old Wikipedia, I should have known better! This is what they have to say...

The Dalton Minimum was a period of low solar activity, named for the English meteorologist John Dalton, lasting from about 1790 to 1830.[1] Like the Maunder Minimum and Spörer Minimum, the Dalton Minimum coincided with a period of lower-than-average global temperatures. The Oberlach Station in Germany, for example, experienced a 2.0° C decline over 20 years.[2] The Year Without a Summer, in 1816, also occurred during the Dalton Minimum.

Volcanic eruptions can have caused some cooling events and greenhouse gases may have contributed to the increase in temperature over the last decades. However, the influence of solar variability has been the major forcing factor and will probably also remain so in the future.”

Solar warming - Solar cooling

This paper provides a radical reinterpretation of the dynamics that drive atmospheric temperature in the stratosphere and upper troposphere and how this drives temperature at the surface. It is embarrassingly at odds with mainstream climate science. Nevertheless, I proceed with cautious deliberation.

Rare Global Warming Debate -- Romm claims World Governments' Support of Man-Made Warming as Scientific ‘Proof’!

Washington DC (ClimateDepot.com) - On Sunday March 29, 2009, a rare event occurred on television. An actual debate about the man-made global warming fears took place on Roll Call TV. Romm, a former Clinton Admin. Official (Acting Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Department of Energy), repeatedly utilized ad hominem attacks during the debate. Romm also claimed the planet may warm up to 15F by end of the century! Romm also made other questionable claims about “green jobs.” [Note: Romm was just named by U.S. News & World Report: Romm as one of the 8 "most influential energy and environmental policymakers in the Obama era" – In addition, Romm comically questioned whether the bridge collapse in Minnesota was a result of man-made global warming & see Design failure (not CO2) evidently behind Minneapolis bridge collapse]

Appearing at the recent “Eco:nomics” conference sponsored by the Wall Street Journal, former vice president and anthropogenic global warming guru Al Gore had a rather telling exchange with Bjorn Lomborg. Lomborg, a former member of Greenpeace and author of the book "The Skeptical Environmentalist" invited Gore to debate the science of man made global warming. Gore declined the invitation insisting that it was “silly” to continue to debate the science.

This seemed a particularly odd response, given the fact that science is by definition the act of questioning - a constant effort to peel back more and more layers in order to gain an ever deeper understanding. For Gore, however, “The scientific community has gone through this chapter and verse.” And the science is settled. In his words, "the debate is over." Well, as my mother used to say, “Talkin’ loud don’t make you right!”

The fact is that the science is far from settled, and there is no consensus on anthropogenic global warming. In fact, the debate is alive and well, at least for those willing to debate. There are, in fact, more than 31,000 scientists – 9,000 of them with PhDs — that have signed a petition stating their unequivocal belief that the Kyoto protocol and similar proposals will “harm the environment, hinder the advance of science and technology and damage the health and welfare of mankind.”
