Sudden stratospheric warming (SSW) has been the 'in' topic in meteorological circles in the last couple of years, ever since the severe winter of 2009/2010 in which December was the coldest since the late 19th century.
SSW is linked to sudden large increases in temperature over a few days in the stratosphere over the Arctic.
This temperature change cause winds to reverse their normal direction.
For some time, forecasters have noted that a sudden weakening in high altitude winds in the stratosphere was often followed in winter by blocking surface weather systems.
These blocking weather systems tend to bring much colder conditions across Europe and the UK from the east, stopping milder air pushing in from the Atlantic.

NASA image storm over the Arctic Ocean
A massive cyclone blew over the central Arctic Ocean this past week, north of the Beaufort Sea, and some Arctic researchers said they have never seen anything like it.
Mark Serreze, a senior research scientist from the U.S. National Snow and Ice Data Center, said cyclones are common at this time of year, but he said this week's storm was stronger than any he's seen.
Click source to read more, the article mas more to say about ice melting then the unique storm, and as pointed out by Piers Corbyn, this storm should knock the Jet Stream further south, but there is no mention of this!

Here are the "hand drawn" pressure charts from WeatherAction.com issued at the end of July.

As you can see from the latest WeatherAction.com "Red Warning" chart, above, we have an "R5" event in a few days (13th - 16th February) indicating there is a higher then average chance for storm enhancements from solar activity and the changes you will see will be driven by new Sudden "Polar Lower" Stratospheric Warming....more to follow
Meanwhile....This is the link for the Met Office 30 day forecast and I have extracted below their forecast from Tuesday 12th February onwards to cover the aforementioned period from WeatherAction.com
Note: Updates to the Met Office link are made twice a day and the text will change

The Second "Power Up" for the October 26th - 27th Top Red Warning Period (R5+) has now produced a M7.7 Earthquake!!!!!!!
Piers Corbyn's methods may have there issues on locations and days as far as his UK weather forecast is concerned but his Astro knowledge for the timing of major Solar Activity seems to be spot on....more to follow
VANCOUVER FoxNews.com, British Columbia – A magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck off the west coast of Canada and a tsunami warning was issued, authorities said, but there were no immediate reports of major damage.
The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake hit the Queen Charlotte Islands just after 8 p.m. local time Saturday at a depth of about 3 miles (5 kilometers) and was centered 96 miles (155 kilometers) south of Masset, British Columbia. It was one of the biggest earthquakes around Canada in decades and was felt across a wide area around British Columbia...click foxnews.com link for more

On the 2nd December I posted the latest R5 forecast from Piers Corbyn with two weather scenarios for the USA and Europe. The period in question was for the 5th - 7th December, and today there is news of a M7.4 Earthquake in Japan that has followed a huge Filament Eruption on the surface of the Sun.
We have seen Solar Climate Change (Solar events on the Sun that make changes to the Earth) repeat several times before and no doubt will see it again in the future and yet the media, and this sadly includes Anthony Watts at WUWT, have put "Solar Climate Change" into the "crack pot" area.
As regular followers at this site have seen before there ARE solar episodes that make changes to the Earth's surface and climate that CAN be forecast in ADVANCE by Piers Corbyn and yet there is no funding available to research these events...WHY?
The question then is this...... who is the "real" denier of these events being related, us or the media (inc. WUWT)?
Well done to Piers Corbyn for a correct R5 forecast...more to follow soon.

The above is the WeatherAction.com "Headline" (First Half of Month) issued at the end of December for January 2013.....well done Piers Corbyn...is there any word form the media or Anthony Watts yet?

You may have noticed that the Proton flux chart I used yesterday had the start of a steep rise, and as you can see from the latest chart above it has peaked and fallen in a short space of time. What you may not have known was that the European Jet Stream has relocated below the UK. The question now remains as to when will it reposition itself?
There are about four days to go before the next major "R" period (R5), that starts around the 19th December, and if in that time frame the Jet Stream relocates across or above the UK, the cut off low could be a repeat of the one that happened in early November.
There was devastating effect of the "cut off low" over Europe last time, as a result of the solar enhancement from another R5 period, lets hope there is not the same situation again...more to follow.
