It may not be all about us humans - earthworms could be contributing to climate change too, according to a new study. What's more, the research warns worm populations are set to boom in the next few decades. So should we be worrying about worm-induced warming?
Well, probably not in the grand scheme of things - but the humble earthworm does have more to do with greenhouse gas emissions than you might think. Earthworms don't produce much in the way of emissions themselves. But the soil they live in does - and worms play a big part in soil.
In the new study, published in Nature Climate Change, researchers in Holland, the United States and Colombia compiled the results of 237 separate experiments from other published studies to explore earthworms' role in global greenhouse gas emissions.
About 20 per cent of global carbon dioxide emissions and two thirds of nitrous oxide emissions come from soil. Emissions are produced by a number of natural biological processes involving plant roots and the microorganisms that live in the ground.

You can't make this up :) An Australian company just sought (but failed) to get approval for a carbon credit plan, killing hundreds of thousands of Australia's 750,000 camels from helicopters. Because of the camels' belching and farting, they emit methane, and if shot, they would reduce Australia's greenhouse gas emissions.

Camel-Slaughter Plan Rejected for Australian Carbon Credits - washpost.bloomberg.com - A plan to give carbon credits for slaughtering camels, curbing emissions coming from their flatulence, was rejected by an Australian government committee.

One's a former Vice-President turned environmental activist, the other's a fast-growing media brand owned by one of the world's biggest oil exporters. So why has Al Gore sold his TV channel to Al Jazeera?
In 2008, Al Gore, US Vice-President under Bill Clinton and climate change crusader, posed a question during a speech at an energy conference in Washington. Referring to renewable energy sources such as solar power, he asked: "What if we could use fuels that are not expensive, don't cause pollution and are abundantly available right here at home?"
One answer, in light of Mr Gore's decision to sell his Current TV channel to Qatar-financed Al Jazeera, is that it would cause sleepless nights for his new friends in Doha, who make their money by selling fossil fuels to the world. Their success had made them very, very rich – and also given Qatar the largest per capita carbon footprint in the world.
This inconvenient truth was omitted from the email announcing the deal, sent to Current TV staff on Wednesday by Mr Gore's partner in the broadcasting project, Joel Hyatt.
"As you may know, Al Jazeera is funded by the government of Qatar, which is the United States' closest ally in the Gulf Region, and is where the United States bases its Middle East Air Force operations," he explained, according to a copy of the email obtained by The Wall Street Journal; what he forgot to mention was the oil and gas business, which accounted for more than half of Qatar's 2010 GDP, according to estimates by Qatar National Bank.

A former undercover police officer is suing Scotland Yard for failing to ‘protect’ him against falling in love with a woman in the group of eco-warriors he was sent to infiltrate.
In a landmark case due to be heard at the High Court next year, Mark Kennedy says his superiors at the Metropolitan Police knew he was sleeping with women he had been sent to spy on, but turned a blind eye because of the quality of intelligence he was providing.
In a writ filed last month, Kennedy, 43, is claiming damages of between £50,000 and £100,000 for ‘personal injury’ and ‘consequential loss and damage’ due to police ‘negligence’

On the 21st February 2010 I posted THE CLIMATE LIARS HANDBOOK a provocative view, from Piers Corbyn, to a publication of "The Rules Of The Game".
This is a media guide as to how to deal with news of Climate Change and also how the media should deal with Climate Skeptics!
In light of the recent BBC problems it now seems a good idea to go over this document again...
A few months ago I noticed that the same document cropped up at InfoWars......
UN Climate Kingpins: Don’t Inform The Masses, Intoxicate Them With Fiction by Jurriaan Maessen at InfoWars.com..
“Broadcasters play a vital role by informing and educating the public about the realities of climate change and the costs of inaction. Armed with information, citizens are better equipped to push for meaningful and responsible follow-through from their elected representatives. This is all the more essential in the final days before Copenhagen.”
Statement by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon for UNESCO’s International Conference on Broadcast Media and Climate Change

Scotland has failed to meet its first legally binding climate change target.
The first Scottish Greenhouse Gas Emissions Annual Target Report states that Scotland emitted 54.7 megatons of carbon dioxide equivalent in 2010 — 1.1 megatons above the target set by the Climate Change Act 2009.
At Holyrood, Environment Minister Paul Wheelhouse blamed "exceptional cold snaps", "year-to-year fluctuations", "factors beyond our control", "budget constraints", "the challenging financial environment" and data revisions for the rise.....
..."When it voted unanimously to pass its Climate Change Act the Scottish Parliament acknowledged that meeting such ambitious targets would be challenging," he said.

* Earthly computers foresee Martian glaciers
* Astronomers dispute climate change skeptics
WASHINGTON, Oct 16 (Reuters) - Computer models have accurately forecast conditions on Mars and are valid predictors of climate change on Earth, U.S. and French astronomers said on Tuesday.
These computer programs predicted Martian glaciers and other features on Earth's planetary neighbor, scientists found.
"Some public figures imply that modeling of global climate change on Earth is 'junk science,' but if climate models can explain features observed on other planets, then the models must have at least some validity," lead researcher William Hartmann of the Planetary Science Institute said in a statement.
The team's findings were presented at the annual meeting of the American Astronomical Society's planetary sciences division in Reno, Nevada.

A set of SEVEN Climate Change Videos from RealClimate.org lets the followers of AGW take in the FULL effect of "Man Made" climate change. There are temperature "Hockey Sticks Graphs" and also the above that make it look as if they have found a "perfect fit" for CO2 and Temperatures: NO SUCH CORRELATION EXISTS IN REAL WORLD OBSERVATIONS!
How people are taken in by this we will never know, OK we know, but people are, and thats why I keep this site going.

(Reuters) - More than 100 million people will die and global economic growth will be cut by 3.2 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) by 2030 if the world fails to tackle climate change, a report commissioned by 20 governments said on Wednesday.
As global average temperatures rise due to greenhouse gas emissions, the effects on the planet, such as melting ice caps, extreme weather, drought and rising sea levels, will threaten populations and livelihoods, said the report conducted by humanitarian organization DARA.
It calculated that five million deaths occur each year from air pollution, hunger and disease as a result of climate change and carbon-intensive economies, and that toll would likely rise to six million a year by 2030 if current patterns of fossil fuel use continue.....The full report is available at: daraint.org/

The Scottish government failed to meet its own climate change targets in 2010, according the latest official figures.
They showed greenhouse gas emissions rose by 1.9% on 2009 figures, after taking emissions trading into account. Climate Change Minister Stewart Stevenson said exceptionally cold weather conditions in Scotland in 2010 was to blame.
The government is attempting to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 42% by 2020. Climate Change Minister Stewart Stevenson said exceptionally cold weather conditions in Scotland in 2010 was to blame. Mr Stevenson said "Scotland faced its coldest winter temperatures in almost a century - and quite rightly people across Scotland needed to heat their homes to keep warm and safe".
He added: "The Scottish government remains fully committed to delivering ambitious and world-leading climate change targets. We always knew it would be a challenging path to follow when these were set and that year to year fluctuations were inevitable".
