Romney: 'Human activity contributes' to global warming
By Alex Guillen
9/4/12 7:20 PM EDT
Mitt Romney says again in a new questionnaire that human activity contributes to climate change, while opening himself to fresh accusations that his stance has shifted since the early days of the presidential campaign.
Marc Morano discusses Michael Mann’s ‘hockey stick’ hyperbole and his threats to sue Mark Steyn for calling him a climate fraud.
Morano: Mann's fellow UN IPCC colleague, Ed Zorita, has publicly called for Mann to be banned from IPCC process based on the revelations that came out of Climategate & questioning Mann's ethics...The Hockey Stick was called 'statistical rubbish'...The proxy data, the peer reviewed studies -- have demolished any claims that Mann's Hockey Stick has of being accurate science.
First off, Climate Depot extends congratulations to the global warming activists as they celebrate current Arctic ice conditions and try to convince the public that it is a significant event that is due to man-made global warming.
But now, after years of waiting, the Arctic sea ice extent has – at least according to some monitoring sources (See: Update: NOAA Showing 28% More Ice Than The 2007 Minimum) – dipped below the 2007 amount. Of course this is only since satellite monitoring of Arctic began in 1979, so we are in reality talking about 33 years of monitoring. [Update: Has the Arctic record been achieved yet? See Anthony Watts: 'The NSIDC product, the new and improved “multi-sensor” MASIE product, shows no record low at ~ 4.7 million square kilometers']
Is this Arctic ice event significant and does it prove man-made global warming claims? Will skeptics now recant and call for carbon taxes to control the weather?
Climategate figure and Penn State Professor Michael Mann is threatening to sue National Review for a critical article of Mann and his now infamous “Hockey Stick” temperature graph of Northern Hemisphere temperatures claiming to show unprecedented 20th century warming.
See: National Review Responds to Michael Mann's lawsuit threat: 'Get Lost!' & Michael Mann lawsuit: 'Does Mann really want to litigate hockey stick in a court of law? Does he in fact want to dig into any of his unscientific behavior in a venue in which he will be under oath...''
Mann's lawyer John B. Williams of Cozen O'Connor issued the following statement on August 23, 2012.
Excerpt: “The response of the National Review is telling with respect to the issues it did not address. It did not address, or even acknowledge, the fact that Dr. Mann's research has been extensively reviewed by a number of independent parties, including the National Science Foundation, with never a suggestion of any fraud or research misconduct. It did not address, or even acknowledge, the fact that Dr. Mann's conclusions have been replicated by no fewer than twelve independent studies. It did not deny the fact that it was aware that Dr. Mann has been repeatedly exonerated of any fraudulent conduct.” (For the complete statement see here.)
For the first time in 3 years, the Senate held a hearing on the science of global warming. Inhofe in his opening statement stated: I must say it feels like we're back to the good old days. It may be hard to believe, but it was in February of 2009, during the height of the global warming alarmist movement, that this committee last held a hearing on global warming science. Back then we heard promises from the Obama administration of a clean energy revolution with green jobs propped up by billions in taxpayer dollars to companies like Solyndra. What came of all those promises? The global warming movement has completely collapsed and cap-and-trade is dead and gone.
Why should the current drought challenge Inhofe's climate views? Have you even taken a second to look at the history of droughts? For the sake of your professional journalism pride, you should do a follow up article and basically admit you published a rubbish article.
The current drought is not even in same league as the “low CO2” droughts of the 1950s and 1930s. Why did you fail to do even the most rudimentary research for your article?

Environment Virginia Links Extreme Weather Events To Global Warming | wusa9.com
Ch. 9 Excerpt: The Virginia report only goes back 60 years and that's what other experts say we have to be careful about. In fact, those who challenge global warming, including Marc Morano who is a former staff member of the U.S. Senate Environment & Public Works Committee, argue that other studies have found both temperature and precipitation were higher 1,000 years ago during the medieval warm period.
“Environment Virginia's attempt to link man-made global warming to rainfall events in Virginia or any specific region is the stuff of pure politics -- not science. The continental U.S. is less than 2% of the Earth's surface, so any attempt to draw precipitation trends from such a small area using only cherry picked timelines, is grossly misleading. Current data shows that global precipitation has undergone a slight decrease over the past 30 years. Global warming activists are desperately seeking to tie any and every weather event to global warming. Rest assured, your SUVs do not cause heavy rain.
"Other studies have found both temperatures and precipitation were higher 1000 years ago during the Medieval Warm Period. A 2012 peer-reviewed paper in the journal Nature Climate change found no correlation between Co2 and rainfall in India.”
The new study claims: 'Abrupt increase' in CO2 absorption slowed global warming: Excerpt: 'The earth would have warmed faster in the last two decades had there not been an unexplained rise in the amount of carbon dioxide being absorbed on land, scientists believe.” Scientists have discovered an "abrupt increase'' since 1988 in the uptake of carbon dioxide (CO2) by the land biosphere, which comprises all of the planet's plant and animal ecosystems...the breakthrough had taken scientists "completely by surprise''...[study] explains how much CO2 is absorbed by plants and animals, with some of the CO2 then being passed from plants into the land." [End study excerpt]
Ecologist Dr. Moore pulled no punches in commenting on the new study: “These people are either completely naive about the relationship between CO2 and plants or they are making this up as a way of deflecting attention from the lack of warming for the past 15 years.” Moore is the author of the book, “Confessions of a Greenpeace Dropout: The Making of a Sensible Environmentalist,” in which he exposes the green movement and explains why he left the organization.
The Rio+20 version of "sustainable development" would devastate the world's poor. CFACT rebuked the UN, environmental groups, and Rio+20 delegates for attempting to force their dreadful version of the future on the world.
