Front Page News: Britain Facing Flood Misery by Nathan Rao

Image AttachmentThis is what I meant by a signal to follow the Period of the July "Full Moon"...

TORRENTIAL downpours are set to dump two months’ worth of rain on Britain by the weekend, bringing the threat of widespread flooding.

Severe weather warnings have been put in place by the Met Office across a huge swathe of the east of the country for rain over the next three days.

Forecasters last night warned that a non-stop deluge will begin today and bring five inches of rain by Saturday in places.

In Manchester, torrential thundery downpours could spark “severe floods”, according to the Environment Agency. It has issued amber warnings for the city and for scores of other locations for tomorrow with “flooding of land, roads and properties” likely, causing potential transport chaos.

The entire UK faces hour after hour of persistent rain because of yet another low pressure system of warm moist air rolling in from the Atlantic and clashing with cooler air.

Met Office forecaster Helen Chivers warned that in many parts of the country the torrential rain would be falling on already sodden land, increasing the risk of serious floods.

Image AttachmentYour have to forgive me on a couple of these stories being a few days old I have been involved in other areas and a little behind with news reports for 29th - 30th June

BRITAIN faces another six months of topsy-turvy weather with violent storms followed by extreme heat.

Long periods of rain and thunder will be broken by brief spells of scorching sunshine as the unstable weather “bounces” between extremes.

Forecasters say the country has become a battleground between two air masses and the resulting “Armageddon” is likely to last until December. The volatile weather has already produced severe storms on a scale normally seen in the American Midwest.

On Thursday temperatures hit 82F (28C) in Gravesend, Kent, while an inch of rain fell in just two hours in parts of the Midlands and North, leading to flash flooding which claimed at least one life.

Hailstones up to five inches in diameter bombarded parts of Leicestershire and in Lincolnshire practice for this weekend’s air show at RAF Waddington had to be suspended because of lightning.

Front Page News: Summer Starts in September by Nathan Rao

Image AttachmentSUMMER is likely to be a complete washout as Britain endures the worst rain storms for 50 years, forecasters warned last night.

The battering the country will endure over the next three days – with a month’s worth of rain set to fall by Sunday – is likely to be followed by nearly three months of grey skies and deluges.

Forecasters fear the equivalent of five months of rain could fall by the end of June. They do not anticipate any significant hot spell until well into September.

Jonathan Powell, of Vantage Weather Services, said last night: “What we are looking at is an extremely unusual weather event.

“Apart from very brief spikes of heat during the summer, this is it for July and August.”

James Madden, of Exacta Weather, said the rest of the summer would be “unsettled” as long as the jet stream – which is responsible for the washout – refuses to budge.

Front Page News: Worst Storms For A Decade by Nathan Rao
Saturday, June 9th 2012, 5:44 AM EDT
Co2sceptic (Site Admin)
Image AttachmentBRITAIN faces another fortnight of torrential rain which could trigger the worst floods for almost a decade, forecasters warned last night.

A “devastating deluge” threatens to bring two months’ worth of rain before the end of what will be a washout June. After a brief respite this weekend from the seemingly non-stop downpours and violent winds that have left a trail of destruction across the country, the rain will return from Monday as fresh storms roll in. More than 10 inches is expected to fall in just two weeks.

Jonathan Powell, of Vantage Weather Services, said: “This is a serious situation because the ground is getting saturated and rain is going to just pour off in torrents. There is the risk of very severe flooding.”

Gusts of up to 70mph will continue to lash parts of the country today before eventually dying out tomorrow. The Met Office yesterday issued a severe weather warning for the South while the Environment Agency issued 22 flood alerts.

Mr Powell said scenes reminiscent of the flash floods which hit Boscastle, Cornwall, in 2004, were possible. “It could be a devastating deluge heading our way.”

West coast residents urged to stay indoors as Winter storm batters Britain by Richard Alleyne - The Telegraph - by The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for south-west England from early afternoon as strong winds and heavy rain will lash many parts of the country today.

Residents in a Cornwall village were warned to stay indoors and batten down the hatches this morning as 70mph storms began sweeping across Britain.

The gales and driving rain brought power cables crashing to the ground in showers of sparks in the Bell Lane area of Lanner, near Redruth.

The Met Office has issued an amber warning for Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly and say the 70mph gales are likely to bring down trees because they are in full leaf so their boughs are extra-heavy.

Temperatures are also expected to remain low for this time of year....

Front Page News: The day villagers blew wind turbines away: Victory for the little man as High Court rules in favour of preserving the landscape by Tamara Cohen

Image Attachment#Proposal for 350ft turbines rejected by council and government inspectors

#Judge rules building four turbines on edge of Norfolk Broads would harm character and appearance

#Residents fight 'overdevelopment' in picturesque countryside

Villagers scored a major victory over the wind farm and green lobby yesterday.

A High Court judge ruled their right to preserve their landscape was more important than the Government’s renewable energy targets.

Mrs Justice Lang said building four 350ft turbines would harm the character and appearance of a beauty spot on the edge of the Norfolk Broads.

The proposal from Sea & Land Power and Energy had already been rejected by both council and government inspectors.

In what will be seen as a landmark ruling, the judge agreed, saying lower carbon emissions did not take ‘primacy’ over the concerns of the people of Hemsby.

These two Front Page Headline articles from the Daily Express by Nathan Rao only have a few days between them....this is what Jonathan Powell had to say about HIS May forecast on the Daily Express on the 15th May "It looks like this is going to continue well into June. Summer is really on hold, with no sign of it in the near future... and on the right also by Nathan Rao from the Daily Express on the 19th MayJonathan Powell had this to say.. “We will get a glimpse of summer next week with temperatures reaching 73F in the South.

It's little wonder people don't take longe range weather forecast seriously....I can't help but think if being a long range weather forecaster saying cold one day and then hot another is such a difficult thing to do.....is that why the Daily Express promote him and is that why Jonathan Powell's Positive Weather service stopped last year only to start again this year as Jonathan Powell Vantage Weather Services?

Jonathan Powell went on to say the following about the rest of May and the Summer in the UK

Front Page News: New Cold Snap to Last For A Month by Nathan Rao: Updated by Piers Corbyn
Monday, May 14th 2012, 8:09 PM EDT
Co2sceptic (Site Admin)
Image AttachmentBRITAIN will be plunged back into winter this week by a freezing Arctic blast – putting summer on hold for at least a month.

Temperatures could plunge as low as -6C (21F) from today with some areas facing up to 2in of snow.

Much of the country is braced for night-time frosts, bitter cold winds and icy rain to make it feel more like winter until at least the middle of June.

It follows an almost summer-like weekend which saw two days of glorious sunshine, bringing highs of 17C (63F). But experts say the new bout of miserable weather is caused by the jet stream over Europe which is stopping warm air arriving from the Continent and allowing a northerly freezing blast to roar in.

Although the worst of the weather will hit the North this week, the South will endure days of drizzle and freezing winds that will make it feel like -3C, followed by harsh frosts at night. Jonathan Powell, forecaster with Vantage Weather Services, said: “It looks like this is going to continue well into June. Summer is really on hold, with no sign of it in the near future...

Coldest May Latest: Front Page News: Winter To Last Until June by Nathan Rao
Saturday, May 5th 2012, 6:32 AM EDT
Co2sceptic (Site Admin)
Image AttachmentTHE bitter Bank Holiday weather could last for weeks, forecasters warned last night.

Icy winds will send temperatures plunging today before torrential rain returns next week.

This weekend looks set to be the coldest start to May for more than 70 years and the Met men say the miserable weather, more like winter than spring, could drag on until June.

It is a stark contrast to this time last year when crowds flocked to parks and beaches as the mercury soared to 77F (25C) and farmers with parched fields were praying for rain.

Yesterday’s forecast was very different – weeks of snow, harsh frosts and heavy rain. Temperatures could hit the lowest ever recorded for May with freezing gusts from the North Pole making it feel like a chilly -9C.

It is likely to be colder than the Arctic with Honningsvag, Norway, the most northerly village in Europe, falling to just 0C overnight.

The last time it was this cold here was on May 4, 1941, when the temperature fell to -8.9C in Braemar, Scotland.

Coldest May Latest: Front Page News: Britain Facing New Big Freeze by Nathan Rao

Image AttachmentWINTER will return this weekend as an Arctic blast threatens to send temperatures plunging to -9C.

Bitter northerly winds will bring harsh frosts and “significant” snowfall to blight the May Day Bank Holiday.

After the coldest April in 23 years, forecasters warned last night that next week’s temperatures could be the lowest ever recorded in May.

The mercury will plunge in parts of the North from tomorrow with lows of -7C (19F) forecast for Cumbria.

The cold snap follows a week of torrential downpours and flooding with warnings of more heavy rain on the way today.

Parts of Wales are braced for a deluge which could see up to two inches of rain, half a month’s worth, fall throughout the day. The rest of the south of Britain is on alert for heavy showers with further flood warnings in place.
