To the Editor:
The fear of global warming is causing our government to spend billions of taxpayer dollars to subsidize so-called green energy. Now under the direction of Obama and without congressional approval, the Environmental Protection Agency is going to introduce anti-CO2 rules that will increase energy costs for the average family of four by $3,000 per year.
As taxpayers, we have every right for an ongoing debate about this issue. Are the global warming models valid and will the proposed solutions do any good?
Let's look at the global warming alarmists (GWA) predictions and see if their scientific models are correct. Fifteen years ago the GWA predicted that temperatures would go up as CO2 increased. C02 went up and the earth has been cooling for the last 12 years.
They predicted that Manhattan would be under 20 feet of water by 2020. In fact there has been only 7 inches of sea level rise in the last 100 years and no recent increase. Now NASA is predicting that the sun is going into a quiet period with no sunspots and the earth should cool, making the GWA wrong again.
There has never been a constant climate. There have been 20-plus glacial cycles in the last 2 million years. The closeness of the sun to the earth is the main cause of the cycles, not CO2.
