Ross McKitrick has a opinion piece related to Gate Keeping in publications that he experienced attempting to get a paper published. I found the paper on the home page here and was linked to SPPI here:

It is an interesting read regarding what some claim does not exist: "Censorship". The point of this thread is the underlying point of his paper: The surface temperature has problems due to biased interpretation. Without relatively good temperature data for the recorded period the entire IPCC report is based on wishful thinking as there is nothing to compare any other claims to.
The second point is the issue of what time period to base an anomaly on if we had a fairly decent temperature record. BIG IF!
I think the temperature record can be teased out as I have seen some attempts to do just that.
Secondly:With the knowledge that regional oscillations vary on average 60 years we should determine each region separately based on a 100 year minimum, longer would be better. Then finding a natural range of temperatures for each region we can begin to study if there is some climate change to be concerned about.
There are all kinds of alarm bells ringing and I hope Chicken Little and Company run out of steam soon.
