Bar-B-Q summer

Postby Climate Realist » Fri Jul 02, 2010 9:36 am

Now that the Met office has given up predictions due to their abysmal record of seasonal forecast....

Could we now, at last be in for a Bar-B-Q summer??

What are the Jet streams currently doing and what are Stephen Wilde's views on this matter???

The jets over western Europe recently moved poleward to the north of the UK hence recent high temperatures but still nothing exceptional.

However for the entire globe the jets are still on average more equatorward than they were during the late 20th century hence recent concerns about this season's crops in North America.

The jets need to be persistently well north of the UK for us to get a long spell of high temperatures and there is no sign of that.

I suspect we will see a pretty average July and August with a cooler than average winter to come but I can't tell whether the coming winter will be colder than the last one.
