Just making an observation that the 'very wet' in the next few days looks unlikely to happen.

Thurs 9th & Frid 10th probably continuing into start of Sat 11th.
Wetter turning very wet and locally windy. Hail and thunder likley.
This is a Red Warning (Level R4) period so uptick rain etc shown on TV

Actual weather, dry, sunny, very warm and calm. So calm in fact that the Olympic sailing had to be postponed. The complete opposite to what Piers said.

Coupled with his statement on his website that he's scored nearly a 90% success rate with his Olympic forecast has to be one of the funniest things I've read in a long time!
Sad, but oh so very funny.....

Oh dear. The usual churlish deceit and "assess"-by-mistakes-only nastiness by the sad escapees from room 101.

1. Interesting it took ET till now to find an error in this 17day Long range forecast.

2. SOURCE that quote - it's made up. What ET is doing is libel.

3. RULE ONE. Results must be compared with forecasts - not the standard 'misquote to discredit' method of warmists and Met model camp-followers.

5. It looks like our WeatherAction SLAT8a Olympic forecast produced mid July will score around 14 or 15 days basically confirmed out of 17 days = about 85%
- compared with a 'No show' / AWOL for Met Office or does their climatology count as an entry in which case they guided no-one usefully.

4. Poor Carl who got wet fishing on the 4th? He did see rain on the TV though. As an objective assessment of your forecast 0.5/10.

5.Now come on Piers - you can't just say it, you've got to prove it!
Being the scientist that you are I'm sure you've kept accurate records of rainfall totals and sunshine hours at the Olympic Park. Show us how these give an 85% verification

I too would be interested in seeing how Piers arrives at 14 accurate days. Even from just the brief period in his pdf document above we see

Mon 6th & Tue 7th /Wed 8th turning drier and briefly warmer but
drizzly at times. The best days of week. Change during or later Weds.

Mon 6th saw widespread heavy showers and Tuesday also saw showers. Hardly the drier conditions promised. There was drizzly rain late on Tuesday.

And then the four days from the 9th to 12th totally wrong.

So that is at least 6 days out of the 17 wrong and when I went to school 17-6 = 11, already well short of the 14 days Piers claims.

1. ET You are quoting journalize in Boris's excellent piece:

For heaven's sake there is obviously something edited out about the quote (which you use out of context in a gratuitously damaging manner) because it refers to 'a deluge' (rather than 'deluges at times') as if there would be a single deluge for 17 days non-stop. I don't think anyone reading it would think I meant non-stop rain (not even ET but that might be stretching it). I did tell Boris it would be very wet quite often with deluges and overall which is what he conveys in an attractive and amusing manner - and that is what happened as so many going to Olympics events experienced, especially in the earlier parts, which we had warned would be pretty bad with downpours from the evening of 27th, loads more during the cycling over next few days etc etc (and note the MetO missed the heavy rain on 5th August around the country according to Daily Mail etc reports)
So what's your prob - other than the Met Office's poor forecasts on a number of occasions during the Olympics and deluges we forecast generally being confirmed?

2. Whatever you want to mis-use to misrepresent what we forecast it is fortunate that readers of our forecasts and people on CR are not so stupid as you assume.
Try reading (i) Our Brit+Ire forecast prod July 16 and (ii) the pdf Olympics forecast which is based on that. To compare forecasts you have to compare like with like eg ours of 16 July with what? Standard statistics?

It was drizzly Mon night (I was in it in South Kensington and indeed pleased that it was just drizzle not heavy rain and I had forecast this from 11 days before) and finer Tue (I was in Hyde Park and it was bright with a fair amount of sun) and Wed were finer and warmer than Monday and days before.
9+10th wrong like I said
11th Read! It was pretty fine - better than What we expected on 9+10th (the only rational way to understand this short forecast) and look at the forecast graph to be sure - it shows 11th mostly dry England & Wales. WeatherAction forecast confirmed.
12th. Not there yet but looks good. Olympic fc words and BI graph refer to turning wet and colder during 12th which is what MetO are saying now (11th evening).

What I am looking at is our ONE FORECAST ONLY produced 16th July. How many attempts do the MetO have or more to the point how many different forecasts do they have for any day?
For 12th I have seen just about all possibilities but they have been getting closer to our single forecast. Our WeatherAction graph from the forecast produced on 16 July and graphed (same forecast) 27th July shows a marked increase in rain England and Wales from mostly dry at 00GMT to V wet in afternoon (this doesn't mean V wet everywhere but certainly very wet in a substantial amount of England + Wales during the day/afternoon)and colder. THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT THE MET O ARE NOW SAYING ONE DAY AHEAD. So ET if you say we are wrong about 12th (as far as can be seen now) then your beloved MetO model is also wrong.

Piers, the issue is not about MetO forecasts, it's not even about your forecasts, it's about how you 'verify' your forecasts.
WUWT - who come from the same 'side' as you, ran 2 discussions which clearly showed that the verifications you made and declared to the public were often worryingly wrong. Even your independent audit was shown to be wrong.

Just this morning I noticed a picture of the floods at Hebden Bridge which occurred on the 9th July ( http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leeds-18768291 )being used by you to confirm an R4 period of 13-14 July
This is what concerns me.

I note also that you have not produced the data to back up your verification claim of 85% success with your Olympic forecast. Until you do so we must assume that you are unable to do so and all that is implied by that.

I note that weather action is still claiming that a thunderstorm "hit" the opening ceremony "drenching" the crowd. Utter nonsense. 0.4mm of rain fell at the Olympic park all day with only 0.2mm falling on the evening; itself. I also note that Weatheraction continues to claim that the metoffice didn't warn of the chance of showers of the day. Again this is just rubbish - they did (hence so many people came with waterproof ponchos etc.) Given that the Weatheraction forecast was for extreme and dire weather (thunderfloods, large hail and deluges)on the evening of the opening ceremony , and they claim they were right; does Piers Corbyn think the organisers should have cancelled the event or maybe moved it to an indoor location? or would he agree that future organisers of such events should just ignore him as well?
