The Norwegian Nobel Institute has today made a statement affirming that climate scientist, Michael Mann lied when he claimed he was a joint winner of the Nobel Peace Prize. The news is set to render a devastating blow to all libel suits Mann has filed against his critics of his outlandish claims.
Tom Richard investigating for Examiner.com takes the credit for this sensational scoop. Tom says, “I contacted the The Norwegian Nobel Institute to find out if Mann was indeed a Nobel Laureate, winner, etc.” A prompt reply from Geir Lundestad, Director, Professor, of The Norwegian Nobel Institute was soon forthcoming. In no uncertain terms Lundestad affirmed, “Michael Mann has never been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.”
Mann and his hot shot lawyers have thus violated Rule 11(a)( 1) and( 3) with Mann’s affadavit that may now be shown to have knowingly sought to mislead the court. In short, the offense is one of perjury. Blackstone’s law dictionary describes perjury as, “a crime committed when a lawful oath is administered, in some judicial proceeding, to a person who swears willfully, absolutely and falsely, in a matter material to the issue or point in question.”
As to the IPCC “certificate” Mann proudly displays on his Facebook page as “proof” he is Nobel laureate Lundestad had this to say, “Unfortunately we often experience that members of organizations that have indeed been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize issue various forms of personal diplomas to indicate that they personally have received the Nobel Peace Prize. They have not.”

In essence, this new evidence shows that Mann will stoop to criminality to achieve his goals. Whatever the court imposes a light or a harsh sanction it still must register the offense as a criminal act. As such, this is the best possible news for those Mann is suing for libel. Up till now there was no evidence out in the open to prove the Penn State University (PSU) climatologist may be guilty of academic fraud. But now with proof of actual perjury, Mann’s reputation sinks to an all time low.
For all their smart work in forum shopping the case to the District of Columbia courts, Mann’s lawyers now face a tortuous uphill battle to win over any judge and jury, let alone a D.C. one likely to be pro-green. Only yesterday I reported that somehow Mann’s latest libel suit against Mark Steyn, Rand Simberg, the National Review and the Competitive Enterprise Institute was going to be heard in front of the “most biased” judge in Washington DC.
In Canada this news may also impact Mann’s libel suit against fellow climatologist, Dr Tim Ball which has stalled since last year. That’s all because Mann refuses to provide courtroom examination of the dodgy data he has kept secret since he first concocted his infamous “hockey stick” graph that was trumpeted by the IPCC and others as “proof” human emissions of carbon dioxide were dangerously changing the climate.
You can imagine Mark Steyn, Rand Simberg and the folks at National Review and the Competitive Enterprise Institute will be apoplectic with laughter at the news.

I think the latest Federal Rules of Civil Procedure (FRCP) would be Rule 11 paragraph (b). See http://www.law.cornell.edu/rules/frcp/rule_11
The plaintiff can correct it within the framework of the FRCP. Pleadings have some weight, corrections are not altogether rate so one could put this into much ado about nothing.
Except there's more. For example, here

Mann's bio states:
"He shared the Nobel Peace Prize with other IPCC authors in 2007."
and further down:
"2007 Co-awarded (along with several hundred other scientists) the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize for involvement in the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (lead author of chapter 2 of the Third Assessment Report, 2001)"
and a bit of research will turn up other places Mann has made similar claims.
The key is it's not a one-off mistake in a technical pleading. It's a pattern of behavior. It goes to the verasity of the Mann as a witness. As shown, it's not difficult to find the claim is false. And it's clear the Nobel Committee did not hand anything to Mann at any award ceremony. It's easy, then, to infer Mann knew he was lying. And has been for years. And it's important since he's an academic and Nobel prizes are, well, highly prized in his circles.
All in all, a pretty stupid thing to do and the comment about Mann's legal team putting that into the pleadings is a very good point.

A later clarification, by the less than noble Nobels, was that they DID ISSUE A CERTIFICATe TO THE IPCC....followed by the admission by the IPCC THAT THEY DID ADD RECEIPANTS NAMES AND DISTRIBUTE THEM.
So now humanity has prima facia evidence that the self-agrandizing evil elites have no problem giving themselvs undeserved "Peace" prizes....[also see Carter-Arafat and little Barry "Soroeto" Obama]....but....that the appointed head of their pet puppet science sham is now an admitteD FORGER.
Perhaps it is time for defendant Steyn to call witness "Doc Randy Pachauri" and have him explain his role in awarding FORGED NOBEL PRIZES.

Michael E. Mann shows on his facebook site a certificate that was sent to him and all the other IPCC lead authors, signed by IPCC chairman Rajendra Pachauri, formally acknowledging his "contributing to the award of the Nobel Peace Prize for 2007 to the IPCC".
That´s all. No lie, no fraud but the truth!!!
Although You don´t like Michael E.Mann for his hockeystick curve that´s no justification spreading disinformation to damage him personally! Very sad!

Mann did not receive the Nobel peace prize, to claim he did is a lie, simple as that!
Mann has contributed a whole lot of lies (Hockey stick curve) for this big lie - IPCC 2007 Nobel "peace" prize.
Beyond question IPCC is consisting of human individuals.
On this view Michael E.Mann shares Nobel peace price with lead authors and all the other staff of the IPCC! A lot of fuss about nothing! I think it´s better to debate issue of climate change in a fair style!

Judith Curry herself indicate that is aware of Dr. Mann's incredible shooting in the foot statement with this she quote what Mark Stein wrote:

Jens, I think the hockey stick is an excellent reason not to like Michael Mann.
That aside, the shenanigans appear to be occurring on two levels:
On the first level what I call "subliminal self-promotion" in which he frames his comments in such a way as to be sure that his supporters and journalists will make the exaggerated statements for him and of course in every instance he covers himself by stressing the fact that it was teamwork. You appear to have fallen for that one as does somebody in his legal team, because on the second level I find it difficult to imagine Mann being unguarded enough to have personally written the following which to me is more flagrant because it implies he was team leader:

Along with other researchers, he was one of the first to document the steady rise in surface temperatures since the 1950s? As a result of his research, Michael Mann and his colleagues were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
