Get your skis out. Winter has arrived with a flourish across the mountains of Europe with deep snow conditions you normally expect at the end of January.
More than a metre of the stuff has fallen in the past week on top of what was already an established base in high resorts such as Tignes, Zermatt, and Solde
Much more is expected to arrive over the weekend and a further storm should sweep in on Monday before temperatures begin to rise and the sunshine returns. Incredibly, according to the French weathermen, this is some of the deepest snow recorded for early December since 1950.
France has the best of it, but Switzerland and parts of Austria have also benefited. Regardless of any thaw that may set in later in the month, conditions over Christmas and New Year almost everywhere should be nothing short of superb.
