Flood warning as more snow falls in parts of UK - BBC News
A BBC Weather story that most of us would find confusing but it was true, we had a gread deal of snow and now have some warming.
I think the recent shot of solar activity had a hand to play in this event.
In the Astrophysics v Meteorology: Countdown to the "Coldest Thaw"! It looks game set and match to the Met Office on this, but you got to admit it was a very strange event to call!

Reports suggest that a foot of snow fell in about 2 -3 hours along the M6 which equates to about an inch of rain which is hardly unusual.
We are now into a regime of mild westerlies bringing a succession of Atlantic systems through the UK and pushing the cold air way ever back east. Looks like this regime will last for several days making Pier's forecast for another blizzard across England and Wales at the beginning of February looking very unlikely. I look forward to reading John O'Sullivan's critique on this one.
As for the headline above, what is strange. A rapid thaw brought about by heavy rain often results in flooding and indeed what caused the great floods of March 1947, the most noticeable feature was it was the Thames flooding along a great deal of its length.
At least you conceded that the MO was correct and Piers wrong on this one.
