It's interesting research but it seems a bit blown out of proportion. Scandinavia is not global and I'm not aware of any research which claims these regions would have been colder at the time. What would be interesting is the question if the new methodology would change more measurements around the globe for that time period.

It is interesting to read Chapter 5 of the latest leaked draft from the IPCC.http://www.stopgreensuicide.com/Ch5_Paleo_WG1AR5_SOD_Ch05_All_Final.pdf It says "For average annual Northern Hemisphere temperatures, there is medium confidence that 1981–2010 CE was the warmest 30-year period of the last 1300 years and it is very likely that it was the warmest of the last 800 years."
If you then go down to page 53 you will see the list of papers (in alphabetical order by author) that were analysed before they came to this conclusion. I tried to count them and counted over 200 just up to the letter D!. I expect there are well over 1000 papers there, so one paper with a contrary conclusion is hardly going to change the overall conclusion.

Just to add to my comment above, the paper quoted from above, as well as 7 other papers by the same authors, is included in the IPCC report. It appears the IPCC have left no stone unturned.
