If you were caught in a snow flurry yesterday, be warned – there could be more on the way as the freezing air continues to blow in from Siberia.
Temperatures this weekend are likely to be lower than average for February and, with the driving winds, could plunge as low as minus 11C (12F) in northern Scotland.
Forecasters say up to an inch of snow could fall, especially in Eastern parts of England such as East Anglia, Yorkshire and Kent.
Many parts of the country saw snow yesterday, while the frosty temperatures saw water in the fountains in London’s Trafalgar Square freeze.
The country will also be gripped by freezing winds of up to 40mph, making it feel even colder.
Forecasters say the cold snap is set to last for up to five days.
Dubbed the ‘beast from the East’, the freezing air has been sucked in from Siberia and is causing temperatures to plummet.
John Lee, a forecaster for Meteogroup, said: ‘It is going to be a very chilly weekend all over the country, but more especially in the South due to a biting wind. That will bring a wind chill factor that could see temperatures dive and it is due to get very cold at night.
‘At the moment we have a high-pressure zone across Scandinavia and that is bringing in winds from the East, from Russia, and they are especially cold and people will feel the difference in temperature this weekend.’
