1. Piers Corbyn, astrophysicist of WeatherAction, speaking at their monthly (last Friday every month) Public meeting and Press Event 31st Oct - spelt out WeatherAction's uniquely reliable Long Range detailed severe weather Warnings as they apply to November 2008.
Echoing his 'astoundingly accurate' 11 month ahead warnings for two storm spells one year earlier in November 2007 (which were confirmed by The North Sea storm surge of 9th Nov 07 and the highest ever recorded sea swell on Western British Isles coasts 30 Nov/1st Dec 07 and a tornado in N France**) Piers Corbyn made available to public media the headline summary of his WeatherAction long range November forecast (first issued to subscribers 9 months ago):
Nov 08: Dramatic changes. Cold wintry spells separated by heavy rain floods and storms.
Severe Weather Warnings: Gale damage with North sea storm surge risks (70% likely) or/and sleet & snow espec around 12-14 Nov & 25-28 Nov. (full forecast - 6 pages - available via WeatherAction.Com)
Piers said the forecasted storm tracks were suitable for a strong North wind in their tail which could lead to the necessity of raising sea defences and high risk of coastal flooding in East Anglia and Holland as occurred on Nov 9th 2007. However he added that recent shifts in the Jet stream to further South meant that these forecasted storms could also be further South and so make strong East / NorthEast winds and potential snow rather than the North winds with a long sea fetch which drive seawater to threaten coasts of Holland and East Anglia.
He said he was 95% confident there would be severe storms in the North Atlantic / British Isles region in the periods 'around 12-14Nov' and 'around 25-28 Nov' and it was 70% and 35% respectively likely that these storms would lead to a notable North sea storm surge which could require emergency action in England and Holland. The colder options with less of a coastal threat and sleet /snow more probable in East England (eg) were 30% and 65% likely.
He said the similarities with last year were interesting and he was spelling out the margins of error because last year some irresponsible churlish-beyond-belief newspapers and bloggers had attempted to mislead the public with claims that a 1% variation in timing (ie 3 days for 300 days ahead) meant the WeatherAction forecast was 'wrong'. "They don't denounce Met Office forecasts when they are in error by 1% which is 15minutes from 24 hours ahead" he remarked.
** INFO re Nov/Dec 2007. The surge of 9th Nov 2007 confirmed the forecast for 8-13Nov and the forecast for 'extremely stormy sea conditions and alarming build up of swell' for end Nov was confirmed on Nov 30th/Dec1 - vindicating the forecast made 300 days ahead to within 3 days. 2. The debate in Parliament on 28th Oct on The Climate Change Bill was discussed.
It was noted that MPs had voted 463 votes to 3 to back measures based on the false 'science' of man-made Global Warming while as they spoke snow fell in the London & South England area for the fist time in October for 74 years.
In response to information from a representative of CO2Sceptics.com who pointed out comments made from article
Snow blankets London for Global Warming debate it was agreed to back the naming of 28th October as
CLIMATE FOOLS DAY, and mark it annually.
It was reported that Tim Yeo MP Chair of the Climate Audit Committee - and who had ignored requests from scientists and the public for evidence to justify his Climate Change proposals - had admitted a conflict of interests over anti-CO2 laws
House of Commons Hansard Debates for 28 Oct 2008 Column 756
Mr. Yeo: I declare an interest that is in the register: I am a director of Eurotunnel, which provides a low-carbon transport route between Britain and the continent.
Piers Corbyn said "This is monstrous. The green lobby and carbon traders are creating false value which is just as bad as the false value creation by other derivative, stock exchange and property spivs, yet Mr Yeo seems to be proud of himself. Parliament might just as well put the controllers of hedge funds in charge of auditing themselves".
The next Weather Action Public Media event - on Friday 28th November 12noon at Delta House 175-177 Borough High st SE1 - will give some information on the coming winter.
