“Prove Climate Scaremongering.”
Australians have been battered recently by a planned program of “scare-a-day” climate doom forecasts, especially during the period while the Senate was re-considering the Ration-N-Tax Scheme.
Presumably we can expect this ploy to resume in January 2010, prior to Mr Rudd’s third attempt to coerce the Senate to pass his friendless bill.
We have been threatened with climate catastrophes such as droughts, floods, heat waves, bush fires, rising sea level, loss of the Barrier Reef and extinction of the pygmy glider. In the latest scare-mongering, the government’s ABC gave generous airplay to dire predictions that global warming will cause migrations and wars.
Any Australian politician or official claiming that a miniscule increase in the amount of a trace gas in the atmosphere will produce climate doom should be asked to show us the evidence or proof of his irrational beliefs.
Such proof should normally come from CSIRO, the government science adviser. However, the recent revelations that CSIRO has been involved in suppressing dissent about the ETS from within its own ranks suggest that CSIRO is being driven by political agendas rather than science.
CSIRO has a long record of good and useful science. However, unless it can produce data, evidence and proof to support the government climate scare forecasts, we are forced to conclude that it has abandoned objective science for political advocacy.
