As April deluges soak Britain a top long-range weather forecaster denounces error-prone Environment Agency and mainstream media spin.

Londoner Piers Corbyn, the maverick long-range forecaster of WeatherAction.com has poured more cold water over Britain’s discredited Environment Agency and gullible eco-crazed national newspapers. Corbyn reveals how self-serving pro-green zealots obstruct his efforts to help give Britons a chance of a more effective national long-range weather prediction service.

Mainstream media organ, The Guardian typifies the lunatic element. The paper’s Environment pages (April 16, 2012) have been gushing constant drought gloom and doom to a dwindling flock of readers.

Updated below with MUST READ comments from Piers Corbyn

Article continues below this advert:

The Guardian’s Big Green drips Fiona Harvey and Madeleine Cuff have been pouring on the spin from the UK’s Environment Agency about a ”Wildlife and farming disaster warning as drought spreads across England Officials warn dry spell could last into next year and hosepipe bans could be extended to cover larger areas.“

Oh, really? As they say, a picture speaks a thousand words. Contrast and compare with a different picture emerging the very same day with a flush of photographs from Corbyn fans showing reservoirs and dams filled to capacity – so much for Harvey and Cuff ‘s “widespread” drought.

Drought? What Drought?

Indeed, the numbers also contradict The Guardian’s (and Environmental Agency’s) story. April 2012 has so far turned out to be the wettest since 2000 with over 55mm of rain falling compared with the April average of 54mm and there’s still another week to go!

Not only are the climate realists at WeatherAction declaring this Britain’s “wettest ever drought.” BBC weatherman, Paul Hudson is also conceding that, “April could end up the wettest on record in Lincolnshire.”

Photos from Russ in Chesterfield, Derbyshire show major dams at the Derwent Valley are brimming with H2O. Russ reports that the ‘Howden,’ the ‘Derwent’ and ‘Ladybower’ are close to overflowing. “I have seen the Derwent dam go from 5o percent to full in a little over 5 days,” reports Russ. The Derwent and Howden dams both hold around 2 billion gallons, while the huge Ladybower dam holds 6.1 billion gallons.

So why have those well-funded government prophets gotten this so wrong yet again? As usual, the loquacious Londoner, Piers Corbyn, is awash with answers.

Planning and Infrastructure Crisis As UK Population Rises

Quite simply confusion reigns from the top down. Corbyn is exasperated at how such “experts” are constantly drowning in confusion over water tables, evaportation rates, regional contrasts, deluges versus steady rain etc. In a previous period of “drought” Corbyn reveals he had discussions with certain water company and environment agency experts as to why there wasn’t enough rain even though there seemed to be plenty.

WeatherAction’s frontman explains, “Even though the government and the public were desperately worried that not enough rain would come the Environment Agency didn’t want to know my forecasts (even though they agreed I had skill).”

And boy, does Corbyn have skill! His WeatherAction forecasts are consistently waterproof showing “85 percent accuracy” months ahead, as affirmed by peer-reviewed scientific studies. That’s why Corbyn is seeing a tsunami of front-page headlines in less biased sections of Britain’s national press. So with his increasingly acknowledged forecasting success rate why would the Environment Agency not want the UK’s most successful long-range weather forecaster onboard when there are weather-related government crisis meetings?

Corbyn explains by drawing a stark comparison with the failures of a previous government. “It reminded me of the fiasco when senior MPs were in endless discussions with Gordon Brown [when he was Chancellor] on his application of ‘The Five Tests’ about whether we join the Euro or not. The answers were so conditionally interrelated as to be incomprehensible and all you knew was that ONLY Gordon understood his “Five Tests” and only Gordon could judge the results and, well Gordon would decide,” laments Corbyn.

Meanwhile, the Environment Agency continues to muddy the waters with it’s nonsensical drought warning claiming that the latest deluges are insufficient to alleviate drought conditions. As such, they say “water restrictions could continue beyond Christmas.”

This has inflamed Corbyn who relentlessly challenges Britain’s ‘greenest government ever’ that claims to champion measures to tackle climate change. But Corbyn says that the real ‘crisis’ is not so much a shortage of rain but a shortfall in any desalination investment.

The irony is that the politics of climate change has not allowed for a drought in the UK – all this by a country surrounded by water. Corbyn has a point. If the government truly feared droughts due to the so-called ‘climate crisis’ then it wouldn’t have dried up on investment plans for desalination plants; and as per Christopher Booker’s financial analysis, its less to do with global warming and more about a national population increase of 10 percent since the last drought of 1976.

Critics are losing patience with the government and environment agencies who for too long have pandered to fringe eco-lunacy lobbyists and profiteering water utility companies. Britain desperately needs and deserves a better long-range weather forecasting service. As such the Met Office and Environment Agency are due a major clean out. The discredited Met Office needs a radical overhaul of its computer models that have been heavily reliant on mythical “greenhouse gas warming.” The drip-drip affect of repeatedly inaccurate weather predictions forced the Met Office to pull the plug on trying to compete with Corbyn and they no longer publish any long range weather forecasts.

Common sense now dictates it’s time for Corbyn to be given a chance to go down a storm at the decision-makers’ table.

I left this comment on the Word Press article itself:

Languishing cyclonic weather jolt gives extra know-how to WeatherAction forecasts and show a foretaste of the 'Little Ice Age'weather patterns to come.

John, simply brill! - and not because I am quoted!
Readers might like to know that despite our well praised forecast through Easter this April later turned wet when we didn't expect it. We have now got a handle on why and this is explained in a news statement we issued:

http://www.weatheraction.com/displayarticle.asp?a=450&c=5

(NB a longer version went to subscribers).

These findings INCREASE our confidence of an exceptionally cold May in Eastern parts and now we have the exciting observations that this weather pattern of 'languishing cyclonic conditions' is like what was understood to have been common in Spring weather during the 'Maunder Minimum' of solar activity aka The Little Ice Age - see Readers discussion Peter Harrison and me via same link.

Thanks Piers

The BBC breakfast news on BBC1 this morning ran a story about how low the water is is certain reservoirs, suggesting they may have ssen this story on Climate Realists and are trying very hard to counter it.

BBC ran this story on the web yesterday: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-17822482

Then ran this story on the web today: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-17836246

- On that first BBC story page check the box marked Related Stories "Drought may last until Christmas: Environment Agency" 16 April 2012 - interesting the clairvoyant skills of the Environment Agency when it's sister department the Met Office gave up the more than 3 month long range forecasting 2 years ago on account of they kept getting it wrong.

- BTW we live in an area which has been OFFICIALLY in DROUGHT for the last few months, yet the water table is definitely high, as all the old quarries have been full of water all winter, and for more than the last week the farm tracks have had standing water on them. No one has to dammed drainage dikes to stop water escaping into the river & estuary etc. as it's totally unnecessary.

Its the wettest drought since records began!
Posted by Craig M (Twitter) on Apr 26th 2012, 8:27 PM EDT
My area from the local weather records I've gathered has certainly been below average in rainfall despite periodic flooding, however. As soon as I heard the warnings of hosepipe bans and the 'drought till xmas' I knew it would rain as last time they made the announcement (early summer?) there was an above average downpour - are they doing rain dances when they make these announcements? Basic understanding of weather (based on following it through my life) tells me that these periods of drought are followed by deluge (rather than easing out of a drought). What is most stupid and has been repeated by everyone I spoke to is this 'wrong kind of rain' rubbish. Britain's rainfall varies as is obvious from the records kept since the 1880's. It happens again and again, so that the water companies cannot deal with this shows how inept they are and how geared they are to profit not service. I have lived in the monsoon region and they cope with no rain then a total deluge which makes our 'rain' the past day or so nothing more than a shower. If they can cope why cannot we? Surely we should be looking to conserve our water when it comes rather than looking for excuses. Storm drain work - we get enough downpours in the south to warrant it. Also I cannot recount how many times I have seen broken pipes leaking water. The last decade (barely two years ago) was the wettest on record yet we have another supposed drought? Did we have unprecedented usage all of a sudden? This reeks of profit making and treating symptoms not the causes. If they want us to be less profligate with our usage education is the way not hosepipe bans when we get a dry and predictable couple of months. I do wonder if the devotion to the sham CO2 theory is behind this idiocy? Instead of teaching us to conserve water and, for example, leave buckets out to water plants (far better than tap water by any stretch) instead we are told cO2 is going to make everything extreme (which is what low solar activity does hmm). Apparently the only thing we can do is try and sort out our carbon footprint rather than dealing with the here and now. Can we actually enjoy the wonders of our weather (wet and all) rather than fearing it's all our bloody fault! Guilt is what much of religious control mechanisms were built upon (not spirituality I might add).

FLOODS are HERE
- Me 6 weeks ago "drought talk is ridiculous in March. This is England so the chances or rain are much higher than dry. Drought in the summer is possible, but even then it's only a 1 in 30 chance."
- Now in April still no days without rain & FLOODS are HERE in the area just north of our county. They were declared to be in drought 3 weeks ago despite the fact that the Yorkshire region does have an interconnecting water ring main & so the water supply can't dry up. Today on the TV we can see the River Derwent overflowing at Stamford Bridge so that there is water 1 foot deep in the pub & some peoples houses. Indeed the Environment Agency website says that inland flooding is expected in 9 places today & possible in a further 33 http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/homeandleisure/floods/31618.aspxm
- 2 Weather stations within my area are almost certain to break the April rainfall record since they are 3mm below it & storms are expected on Sunday.
- PR twisting of science creates an upside down world.. so when authorities show certainty of one thing the truth often turns out to be almost entirely the opposite ... "but trust us on Climate Change", they say ..Yeah right

Aha I workeed out the reason for the strange drought narrative .. turns out what they say applies to one particular SPECIAL TYPE OF RIVER. They are shown the dry River Pang which is spring-fed chalk stream & they are extrapolating that as if it applies to all rivers. I can see what they are doing a little spin to keep people relaxing too much about drought grows like in a game of Chinese whispers to become a big lie. There's a parallel with their Climate Change talk they've been doing the for years.

- Their script says : "this record rainfall makes no difference to the 'drought' since the watertable needs to catchup from 2 years of lower than normal rainfall, this rain just evaporates as the ground is too hard to aborb it, what counts is autumn & early winter rain." All that is complete BS & can be taken apart bit by bit; for a start the temperature is much lower than normal & it rains at night so that water won't be evaporating.... So what are they on about ? : AHA I WORKED IT OUT on Tuesday evening on Radio 4 the reporter said !"Here I am at the River Pang , in Berkshire & as we can see it's still dried up the drought is nowhere near ending.

- WTF most rivers are near overflowing & she manages to find one of the extremely few dry ones . I checked the River Pang is not a normal river. Most say 80-99% of rivers get their water from rainwater flowing off the land, the River Pang is different it is a The spring-fed chalk stream : it gets it's water from the watertable spreading up through chalk and when I check the info
http://hampsteadnorreys.org.uk/Environment/RiverPang.html for it all those special conditions the media churn-out apply to it. It's says stuff like "The River Pang is a chalk stream that starts north of the village, the exact starting ... are mainly replenished by rain that falls during the Autumn and early Winter"

- actually http://www.oxfordshiregt.org/chalk_facts/Chalk%20links%20and%20groundwater%5B1%5D.pdf an academic paper says Spring rain does make a difference
"The water table varies in height throughout the year,
falling during the summer and autumn months and
recovering (due to recharge by rainfall) during the winter
and spring months, with the largest seasonal variations
observed away from the rivers. In a well at Rockley in
Wiltshire, the water table varies annually from 2 to 18
metres below the surface." .. Look at that truely massive variation during even normal years

.. BTW Yes it's easy to show the River Pang dry as it's a very shallow river it's only 20cm deep normally & 35cm is considered a flood http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/homeandleisure/floods/riverlevels/136495.aspx?stationId=7105 environments Agencies own graphs for River Pang. River Pang has been Thames Water's special project for years as it keeps flooding & damaging property... so they have probably been taking steps to keep it low.
- I just read that first page it even says the River Pang has a strange pattern & sometimes dries up randomly in normal years.

I seem to have missed these studies, could you provide a link please?
