I'm NOT 100% certain of the timing for the following report from SpaceWeather.com being before or after yesterdays story of the Major Solar Flare from AR1520. I suspect it was just after!
If I am correct, then this WAS a rare site of the very same Solar Activity capured on photo hitting the Earth's Atmosphere...If any of you can establish this, let me know

Beautiful. NLC's seem to have appeared on 11th (day before). I saw another comment saying it was the first time (11th) they had appeared so far South - not sure on this. It may mean for their area as there were pictures of NLC's earlier this month also from Poland (and Netherlands, Denmark, Germany & UK). May be worth looking back on these, looking at when they appeared & the 'flux' by tracking what latitudes they are being spotted at. They appear to be getting clearer/stronger but that can depend on the camera too. Spotting them is not being helped in many parts of North West Europe by the rain & deep cloud cover.
