Inhofe Comments on Obama’s State of the Union Address

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator James Inhofe (R-Okla.), Ranking Member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, commented on President Obama’s State of the Union Address.

"President Obama committed to the largest annual tax increase in the history of America, through the implementation of a global warming cap-and-trade system," Senator Inhofe said. "The range of the tax increase that would be brought on by this cap-and-trade legislation is somewhere between $300-$330 billion per year. As bad as the stimulus spending bill was, this would be much worse because instead of being one-time spending, the cap-and-trade tax increase would keep occurring year after year. During times of economic turmoil it is folly to impose more pain on families by intentionally raising their energy costs through cap-and-trade. The American people will be outraged when they realize that any so-called global warming ‘solutions’ will not have a detectable impact on temperatures but will have very painful and real impacts on their family budgets.

Disappearing Arctic Ice Is Latest Climate Falsehood

Hoffman, , mathematician, computer programmer, and engineer, worked on environmental models and conducted research in molecular dynamics simulations and continues to teach at Hendrix College and the University of Central Arkansas. Hoffman co-authored a 2009 book The Resilient Earth, which touts itself as “bringing a dose of skeptical reality to climate science and the global warming debate.”

In May, 2008, the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) predicted that the North Pole could be ice free during last years melt season. The disappearing northern sea ice has been pointed to by global warming alarmists as visible proof that the Earth was doing a melt down. Today, however, the NSIDC announced that they have been the victims of “sensor drift” that caused them to underestimate the Arctic ice extent by as much as 500,000 square kilometers. It turns out that the demise of the arctic ice was greatly exaggerated.

When Jym Ganahl was outed in a YouTube video and in an article here in The Other Paper as a global warming skeptic (translation: he believes the globe is warming, but not because of human activity or carbon emissions) he suffered a flurry of emails and phone calls, as well as an online campaign to get NBC 4 to fire him for his rouge views.

Notice how so-called climate change is out of the headlines in recent months. Climate change is the new environmental term for global warming.

This is an abuse of the language of course, because we've had climate change since the beginning of time. An increasing number of scientists in recent months are speaking out against the global warming myth of Real scientists agree the Earth warms and cools over time. At one time ice covered North America. We've had warm periods as well. Eric the Red crossed the Atlantic in crude boats to discover a new continent with little difficulty because climate had warmed about 600 years after Christ's birth.

By the end of the weekend there had been 535 articles in Australia media asserting in one form or another that Victoria’s tragic bushfires were “caused” by global warming.

The fact that, as even leading climate change-supporting scientists readily acknowledge, no single weather event can be said to be caused by global warming is being lost on the public in this media spin.

The same line was pushed in the US after Hurricane Katrina and elsewhere, for example after the most recent bad fires in southern California.

Common Sense Makes a Mockery of Global Warming and Climate Change

In the 1970s, while the rest of the world was waiting for “the next ice age” predicted by scientists in the 1960s, NASA Scientist James Hansen and three of his colleagues were investigating the impact that humans might have on climate change, specifically global warming. During his study Hansen concluded that the world needed to brace itself for a cycle of global warming brought on by man-made pollution.

James Hansen is an award winning scientist and author with B.A degrees in physics, mathematics and astronomy. Hanse, who leads the Goddard Institute for Space Studies, has taught at The University of Iowa, and Columbia in New York. He is heavily involved in earth science studies and he is interested in climatology as a sideline.

More Evidence for Solar-Driven Climate Change

Shaviv (2008) begins a most intriguing paper by noting, as background material, that "climatic variations synchronized with solar variations do exist, whether over the solar cycle or over longer time-scales," citing numerous references in support of this fact, many more of which can be found under the general heading of Solar Effects in our Subject Index.

However, it is difficult for certain people (such as climate alarmists) to accept the logical derivative of this fact, i.e., that solar variations are driving major climate changes, the prime problem being that measured or reconstructed variations in total solar irradiance seem far too small to be able to produce the observed climatic changes.

The Carbon Sense Coalition today accused the Federal and some state governments of imposing Stealth Taxes on electricity consumers by forcing power retailers to buy expensive power from inefficient and costly renewable energy sources.

The Chairman of the Carbon Sense Coalition, Mr Viv Forbes, said that there were no climate benefits whatsoever in forcing consumers to buy an increasing proportion of their electricity from expensive and unreliable suppliers like wind farms.
