Qtown man turns up global warming

A Queenstown man is taking High Court action to prevent the Government enacting the controversial Emmissions Trading Scheme.

Former property developer Basil Walker is seeking an injuction against all Labour Party MPs preventing the scheme being passed into law before this year's election.

Mr Walker said he was acting in the interests of the people of New Zealand.

"I've taken the action because someone had to. This Government is trying to force this on the people and someone had to stand up and say that there is no evidence to support it," he said yesterday.

Inventing the Next Phony Environmental Crisis
by Alan Caruba

The inventiveness of the Greens, when it comes to creating a new crisis after an old one has run its course, is truly extraordinary.

Since the 1980s we have been living with and refuting the notion that carbon dioxide (CO2) has so filled the Earth’s atmosphere that we are all doomed if we don’t shut down every industry known to man and God. The name given to this invented crisis is “global warming.” The problem for the Greens is that the Earth, since around 1998, is not warming. It’s cooling.

Monckton vs. Littlemore of alarmist blog

[Note: DeSmogBlog’s Littlemore is just the latest alarmist to get demolished like a tomato can in a real debate. See U.S. Senate Report: Scientific Smackdown: Skeptics Voted The Clear Winners Against Global Warming Believers in Heated NYC Debate --March 16, 2007—

1) See also this website to listen to the August 17, 2008 full audio of debate of Monckton vs. Littlemore and read the comments confirming yet another stunning victory for those skeptical of a man-made climate catastrophe:

Excerpt: “I’d have to say that Monckton ‘won’ the debate. He came across as more prepared and had answers at his fingertips, whereas Richard appeared to verbally stumble on occasion.” (link).
Rudd feels the heat on 60 Minutes

Rudd feels the heat on 60 Minutes

A turning point in the debate: 60 Minutes is suddenly not so sure man is heating the world to hell, after all. And it won’t have been reassured by Kevin Rudd’s shaky grasp of the evidence in spruiking his carbon tax:

PM KEVIN RUDD: But economic cost (sic) of not acting is massive, it’s through the roof. Think about food production, the Murray, think about the impact on tourism in QLD, no more Barrier Reef, Kakadu, no more Kakadu. Think about the impact on jobs, it’s huge.

Actually, even if Rudd really thinks warming will wipe out the Barrier Reef and Kakadu (neither of which show any sign of going anywhere), he is deceiving viewers by suggesting his carbon tax would make the slightest difference to the climate. Indeed, the only impact will be on jobs - as in costing them, and not, as he claims, saving them.

Climate myths: Global warming stopped in 1998
by Michael Le Page

Even if the atmospheric temperature near the earth's surface has become cooler recently, that doesn't mean the planet as a whole isn't heating up

Imagine two people standing at the South Pole, one dressed in full Antarctic gear and the other wearing not much at all. Now imagine that you're looking through one of those infrared thermal imagers that show how hot things are. Which person will look warmest - and which will be frozen solid after a few hours?

The answer, of course, is that the near-naked person will appear hotter: but because they are losing heat fast, they will freeze long before the person dressed more appropriately for the weather.

Debate still heating up on global warming
by Faye Flam

PHILADELPHIA - What you hear about global warming can vary as much as, well, the weather.

One day, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is quoted saying: "We simply must do everything we can in our power to slow down global warming before it is too late. The science is clear. The global-warming debate is over."

Another day, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum says this: "Americans are coming to understand that global temperatures have actually cooled over the last 10 years and are predicted to continue cooling over the next 10."
On another day, dozens of papers proclaim that the sun is at fault, since the Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research demonstrated that the sun has burned brighter in the past 60 years than any time in the past 1,100 years, or 8,000 years, depending on the news source.

Scientists split on ice melt impact

Faster than expected ice melting this summer prompts warning that the Arctic could be ice-free in the summers within five years

Will global warming cause the Arctic to be ice-free in the summer within five years?

Yes, say some scientists, who warn that the ice melt is occurring faster than previously predicted and will cause major environmental damage, ranging from changing weather patterns to rising sea levels which will threaten scores of Pacific islands and low-lying areas.

No, say others, who insist that global warming is nothing more than a scam and that the ice melt in the Arctic is something that simply happens every year.

Global warming the new religion

Let me say first of all, I love the environment.

In fact, I spend most of my time in some environment or other.

My family lives the low-packaging, low carbon, tedious recycling lifestyle.

My wife is so committed to recycling that I'm convinced that when I'm gone, my body will be dragged to the curb on Wednesday night.

So I have to say in a quiet voice that I'm sick and tired of hearing about carbon footprints, offset credits, green shift and global warming.

Opinion: Flat Earthers & Global Warming
by Gar Swaffar

What do global warming proponents and the Flat Earth Society have in common? They both refuse to look at science dispassionately.
The Flat Earth Society took a hit back in 2001 when the leader Charles K Johnson died, but a new standard bearer has risen, and the Flat Earthers who prefer the term discarians, are up and running again.

The entire concept of a flat earth is to many of us just a very funny thought against a backdrop of disbelief of how a group of otherwise intelligent people can be so wrong headed about a particular subject with no scientific proof to sustain the idea.

Warming warnings get overheated
Letter from Björn Lomborg

Alarmist predictions of climate change like Oliver Tickell's are not just bad science – they stop us thinking rationally about solutions.

Much of the global warming debate is perhaps best described as a constant outbidding by frantic campaigners, producing a barrage of ever-more scary scenarios in an attempt to get the public to accept their civilisation-changing proposals. Unfortunately, the general public – while concerned about the environment – is distinctly unwilling to support questionable solutions with costs running into tens of trillions of pounds. Predictably, this makes the campaigners reach for even more outlandish scares.
