I had been waiting to post the above WeatherAction.com "Red Warning" chart for April starting from the first "R4" period, due to commence on the 9th, and not for the first time the period before this event held a higher "QV" warning. This "new" style of forecasting from Piers certainly throws my understanding of these ratings out.
I tend to look for the highest "R" rating and post accordingly, however on the past two occasions it was the "R3" rating that had the higher "QV" period and it has come up with a higher then average magnitude Earthquake...see below the result for the past two months for these "R3" events and you will see what I mean.
A day after we announced the second Magnetic Filament Eruption for the SECOND February Piers Corbyn "R5" Red Warning Period we have just received a news report from Eastern Russia that they have had a M6.9 Earthquake, just another coincidence? Or is there something to these high end "R4+" forecasts, you decide....more to follow
A magnitude 6.9 earthquake has hit the Kuril Islands, south of Russia’s Kamchatka peninsula, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The quake had a depth of 18 miles.
There are no reports of damage.
It's the second quake to hit the Kuril Islands this year. A magnitude 5.5 earthquake struck the Isles on January 1. The Islands were also hit with two earthquakes in November 2012, which measured magnitudes of 6.8 and 5.3.
The Kuril Islands are located 90 kilometers (56 miles) from Severo-Kuril'sk, Russia. Tokyo is located 2,204 kilometers (1,369 miles) away from the Isles.
The population of the Islands is around 19,000 people, and the total land area is about 15,600 square kilometers (6,000 square miles).
On Wednesday I reported news of a Magnetic Filament Eruption near the sun's SW lim from SpaceWeather.com and associated it to yesterday's M6.6 Russian Earthquake. I said to a few people at the time the lull between events did not fit in with what I consider to be "magnetic connections", these changes are a lot faster, and I went away not being certain If I had in fact made the correct association on this occasion. But that has now changed, today I have noticed another report from SpaceWeather.com that may explain the association a bit better then I had originally reported. Apparently there was a recording of a magnetic storm a day after the solar event, and they go on to also mention the "solar wind" in the report. The "Solar Wind" normally takes 3-4 days to materialize on Earth, but that would not seem be related to the Magnetic Filament Eruption solar event from Wednesday. The solar event that gave the solar wind may have been from the previous report from the 9th February. What I think they have reported, is in fact the magnetic connection from the 13th February, along with the Solar Wind from the solar episode that took place on the 9th, confusing stuff I know:).. ...
VALENTINE'S DAY MAGNETIC STORM: Valentine's Day in Scandinavia began with a magnetic storm. Rob Stammes of the Polar Light Center in Lofoten, Norway, reports: "Our instruments recorded 2o swings in the local magnetic field, which induced strong electrical currents in the ground outside our lab." The needles on his chart recorder were swinging wildly:
"Overhead we saw some fantastic auroras," he adds.
The storm was caused by a region of south-pointing magnetism in the solar wind that wafted past Earth during the early hours of Feb. 14th. The solar wind's south-pointing magnetic field partially canceled Earth's north-pointing magnetic field, opening a crack in our planet's magnetosphere. Solar wind poured in to fuel the storm...click source for more
Yesterday was the Fist day of the February Piers Corbyn "R5" Period (13th - 17th) and we reported a CAT2 Cyclone and also a Magnetic Filament Eruption on the Surface of the Sun. Today we have a report from Russia of a M6.6 Earthquake and as before I have associated this event with yesterdays Magnetic Filament Eruption. For those of you who think this is a completely unscientific and unrelated thing to do, as events on the surface cant alter events on the surface of our world, good luck with that thought, they do ....more to follow.
The earthquake, which had a depth of six miles according to the U.S. Geological Survey, hits Sakha, Russia on Thursday afternoon
A 6.6-magnitutde earthquake has struck northeastern Siberia, the U.S. Geological Survey reported. The quake, which had a depth of six miles according to the USGS, reportedly hit Sakha, Russia on Thursday. The quake did not appear to hit a densely populated area, according to the Earthquake Report. The earthquake was originally reported to be 6.9 magnitude, but the USGS downgraded the impact...click nydailynews.com link for more
YouTube from SolarHam.com I think I have found yet another Solar flare and Earthquake combination today, surprising the Piers Corbyn "R3" rating does not support this as a being as a key Solar/Lunar event, I will keep this news report as a stat for the end of year analysis.....more to follow.
SolarHam.com: Solar activity has been low with a long duration C-Class flare detected this morning, associated with a filament eruption in the northern hemisphere. A Coronal Mass Ejection is seen leaving the Sun and may have somewhat of an Earthward component, but a majority of the cloud appears to be headed North in the latest Lasco C3 images. I will provide more updates on this when more data is available. All three visible Sunspots 1665, 1667 and 1670 are currently stable.
BOGOTA, Colombia — A powerful but deep earthquake shook a broad swath of Colombia and Ecuador on Saturday, sending frightened people fleeing into the streets, but no serious injuries or major damage were reported.
The U.S. Geological Survey said the 9:16 a.m. (14:16 GMT) quake had a magnitude of 6.9.It was centered about 7 miles (12 kilometers) from the Colombian town of Pasto and 92 miles (154 kilometers) below the surface....click washingtonpost.com for more
A close-up of the blast site shows an inky-dark plume of plasma spiralling away from the explosion. The darkness of the material is a sign that it was extra-dense and cool relative to the surrounding atmosphere of the sun.
DOUBLE ERUPTION (UPDATED) - SpaceWeather.com: Sunspot AR1667 erupted this morning (Feb. 6th @ 00:21 UT), producing a double-peaked C9-class solar flare that lasted more than ten hours from beginning to end.
The slowly-unfolding explosion also hurled two CMEs into space. The clouds are not heading directly for Earth, but they could deliver glancing blows to our planet's magnetic field on Feb. 9-10. High-latitude sky watchers should be alert for auroras this weekend
Below is an awesome video capturing the C8.7 solar flare around Sunspot 1667. During the eruption, a blob of plasma above the blast site is captured spinning like a Tornado vortex. Most of us Sun lovers hope for X-Class solar flares, however even a C-Class flare can be fascinating. A slow motion version is also included.
EARTH-DIRECTED ERUPTION - SpaceWeather.com: The magnetic canopy of decaying sunspot AR1667 erupted this morning (Feb. 6th @ 00:21 UT), producing a long duration C9-class solar flare and hurling a coronal mass ejection (CME) into space. According to first-look images from NASA's STEREO-B spacecraft, the CME appears to be heading in the general direction of Earth...click SpaceWeather.com link for Video link
The last and ONLY M7+ EQ so far this year was on the 5th January, and it was a direct result of a Solar flare, but unlike this time it did NOT fall in a high "R" period and there was no Tropical Storm "power up", unlike this time, this time we did note a major Tropical Storm "power up" that went up to CAT 4, so once again our view of solar activity and changes in the Earth's climate has something in common and it's thanks to Piers we have a good idea when it will happen (not 100% but better then ZERO)....well done again to Piers.....pity the media have not reported on your success yet
SolarHam.net - A large prominence eruption is currently in progress in the northeast quadrant. A Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) will most likely be flung into space.
This active period was NOT forecast as a Pier Corbyn "Red Warning" R4/R5 period and there is also no current indication of a "power up" of tropical storms going on, although for the past two days we have seen a CAT1 being present.
This looks as if it could be the start of bigger events to come, maybe this is a second peak for SC24?...more to follow
To illustrate the growing spottiness of the sun (SpaceWeather.com), each active region in this Jan. 5th image from NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory is circled (click SpaceWeather.com link for latest image of the Sun)
The most active sunspot so far is emerging over the sun's northeastern limb. Crackling witth flares, it unleashed an M1.7-class eruption on Jan. 5th at 09:34 UT that sent a wave of ionization rippling through the upper atmosphere over Europe. More flares appear to be in the offing; stay tuned....
