You Could Not Make It Up: Global temperatures warmest on record by Steve Oliver, NOAA Headlines Examiner

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) released their monthly report on global climate. The findings show that July 2010 was the 2nd warmest July on record, second only to July of 1998.Also from the period of January through July had the warmest average ever recorded. NOAA also found that the global sea surface temperatures were the fifth warmest on record for the month of July and for the period of January through July 2010 it was the 2nd warmest period, the warmest was recorded in 1998. July was the 305th consecutive month with a global temperature above the 20th century average.

Couple of interesting facts from the data shows we had a very wet July on a global scale which includes the monsoon season in Pakistan that has caused deadly flooding over a very wide spread region of the Peshawar province. The flooding in Pakistan is the worst since 1929. Also the Arctic ice shelve was 16.9 percent below the average from 1979 to 2000 and was the second lowest on record. The record low for the month of July was in 2007. However we had a reversal of melting ice on the Antarctic ice shelve with a record 4.8 percent growth, which is the largest, recorded for the month of July.

You Could Not Make It Up: Will this summer of extremes be a wake-up call? by Stefan Rahmstorf
Monday, August 16th 2010, 3:19 PM EDT
Co2sceptic (Site Admin)
This decade has been marked by a number of weather extremes – which show how vulnerable our societies are

This summer has been one of weather-related extremes in Russia, Pakistan, China, Europe, the Arctic – you name it. But does this have anything to do with global warming, and are human emissions to blame?

While it cannot be scientifically proven (or disproven, for that matter) that global warming caused any particular extreme event, we can say that global warming very likely makes many kinds of extreme weather both more frequent and more severe. For weeks, central Russia has been in the grips of its worst-ever heatwave, which has caused probably thousands of fatalities. As a result of drought and heat, more than 500 wildfires have raged out of control, smothering Moscow in smoke and threatening several nuclear facilities. Russia's government has banned wheat exports, sending world grain prices soaring.

Meanwhile, Pakistan is struggling with unprecedented flooding that has killed more than a thousand people and affected millions more. In China, flash floods have so far killed more than a thousand people and destroyed more than a million homes. On a smaller scale, European countries like Germany, Poland, and the Czech Republic have also suffered serious flooding.

MUST SEE: RTV Wildfires rage on shrouding Moscow in blanket of smog: Updated with Piers Corbyn YouTube

The thick blanket of acrid smog caused by relentless wildfires which has settled across the Russian capital has shown no sign of dispersing.

Yahoo StumbleUpon Google Live Technorati del.icio.us Digg Reddit Mixx Propeller Forest and peat blazes continue to devastate large swathes of Central Russia, with a record-breaking heat wave forecast to go on until at least next week.

Russia's deadly wildfires, smog-filled cities and poor harvest are being seen by some environmentalists as signs of man-made climate change.

But astrophysicist and founder of the Weather Action Foundation Piers Corbyn puts the heat wave down to climate cycles.

“The climate has always been changing, but it has nothing to do with man,” Corbyn told RT. “In fact we predicted that there will be extreme heat in Russia and eastern Europe. It's caused by circulation patterns, caused by a combination of solar activity and the phases of the moon.”

Probably not the ‘hottest year’ by Dennis T. Avery

Churchville, VA—James Hansen of NASA, an ardent believer in man-made warming, announced recently that “The 12-month running mean global temperature in the Goddard Space Institute analysis has reached a new record in 2010 . . . NASA, June 3, 2010. The main factor is our estimated temperature change for the Arctic region.” The GISS figures show that recent temperatures in the Arctic have been up to four degrees C warmer than the long-term mean.

Should we be alarmed? Probably not very.

My esteemed colleague Art Horn, at the Energy Tribune blog, has blown the whistle on Hansen and GISS. He points out that GISS has no thermometers in the Arctic! It has hardly thermometers that are even near the Arctic Circle. GISS estimates its arctic temperatures from land-based thermometers that supposedly each represent the temperatures over 1200 square kilometers. That’s a pretty heroic assumption.

Superheat & Superfloods North Hemisphere, and Supercold South Hemisphere Confirm Solar Predicted Weather Extremes Across World by Piers Corbyn

article image
Superheat and superfloods and sharply contrasting major weather extremes across the world during July – continuing into August - were predicted at the end of June by Piers Corbyn astrophysicist of weatheraction.com - http://bit.ly/b6omCy. “The superheat and floods in the north hemisphere and supercold blasts in the South hemisphere are part of the whole world weather system which is driven by solar-magnetic activity and lunar effects which are predictable months ahead”.

“We specifically predicted the heatwaves and thunderfloods for much of Europe & West Russia (see http://www.weatheraction.com/docs/WANews10No28.pdf) and our current Euromaps forecast – via http://www.weatheraction.com/member.asp shows that heatwaves and hot weather in much of Russia will largely continue to mid-August and then sharply decrease and end completely - turning cool - in the last week of August. The change in solar-magnetic lunar state and corresponding shifts in the jet stream and Total Weather State of the world around mid-August will, we expect, also end the super-intense monsoon rains in Pakistan.

“These extreme weather situations and events - which happen simultaneously around the world - are driven by events on the sun in our predicted Solar Lunar Action periods (SLAPs). This weather - and climate change - are entirely driven by Solar-Magnetic Lunar effects and are nothing to do with CO2. Heatwaves in Russia and floods in India/Pakistan and England happened in similar solar-magnetic-lunar states about 132 years prior to current/ recent episodes of similar solar-magnetic (6X22=132yrs) & eclipse (7x19=133) cycles. Is Temperature Spinning, Out of Control? by Dennis Ambler
Saturday, July 31st 2010, 2:26 PM EDT
Co2sceptic (Site Admin)
As we are told of yet another “hottest year on record”, our daily news reports are full of “hot testimony”, for example the heatwave in Moscow, Russia is described in this report:

“The heat has caused asphalt to melt, boosted sales of air conditioners, ventilators, ice cream and beverages, and pushed grain prices up. Environmentalists are blaming the abnormally dry spell on climate change.

On ‘black’ Saturday, temperatures in Moscow hit a record high of 38 degrees Celsius with little relief at night, making this July the hottest month in 130 years. The average temperature in central Russia is 9 degrees above the seasonal norm.”

As usual, WWF regard this as proof of global warming,

“Certainly, such a long period of hot weather in unusual for central Russia. But the global tendency proves that in future, such climate abnormalities will become only more frequent”, says Alexey Kokorin, the Head of Climate and Energy Program of the World Wide Fund (WWF) Russia.

He fails, of course, to say what caused the previous heat wave of similar magnitude 130 years previously, as was mentioned in the report. Such is the nature of environmental reporting these days, that such questions equally do not arise in the minds of those willing reporters who swallow every crumb of global warming thrown to them. Never ever mentioned are historical instances such as the seven month long European heatwave of 1540, when the River Rhine dried up and the bed of the River Seine in Paris was used as a thoroughfare.

Global Temperature And Data Distortions Continue by Dr. Tim Ball: Updated with comments from Piers Corbyn

Recent reports claim June was the warmest on record, but it seems to fly in the face of reports of record cold from around the world.

Reports from Australia say, “Sydney recorded its coldest June morning today since 1949, with temperatures diving to 4.3 degrees just before 6:00 a.m. (AEST).” “Experts say it is unusual to see such widespread cold weather in June

In the southern hemisphere reports of cold have appeared frequently but rarely make the mainstream media.

“The Peruvian government has declared a state of emergency in more than half the country due to cold weather.”

“This week Peru’s capital, Lima, recorded its lowest temperatures in 46 years at 8C, and the emergency measures apply to several of its outlying districts.”

You Could Not Make It Up: Heat Wave: 2010 to Be One of Hottest Years on Record by Christine Dell'Amore
Tuesday, July 27th 2010, 3:09 AM EDT
Co2sceptic (Site Admin)
Thanks to a combination of global warming and an ocean-warming El Niño event, 2010 is set to become one of the hottest years ever recorded, a new report says.

Land and ocean temperatures for the period of January to June were the hottest seen since record-keeping began in 1880, according to an analysis released July 15 by the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

The average temperature for the first half of 2010 was 57.5 degrees Fahrenheit (14.2 degrees Celsius)—about 1.2 degrees Fahrenheit (0.7 degrees Celsius) above the 20th-century average.

Nine countries shattered heat records, including Pakistan, which on May 26 logged a mercury reading of 128.3 degrees Fahrenheit (53.5 degrees Celsius)—the highest ever seen in Asia, according to Jeff Masters, director of meteorology for the Weather Underground website.

While some regions heated up—such as Asia, Peru, and the eastern U.S.—short-term climate impacts meant other areas saw their coolest temperatures yet.

Southern China's Guizhou Province, for instance, experienced its coolest June on record, the report said.

"It's too early to extrapolate and say it's the hottest" year ever recorded—a title currently held by 2005. But 2010 "will almost certainly be at least the third or fourth warmest on record," said Derek Arndt, head of the Climate Monitoring Branch of NOAA's National Climatic Data Center.

Desperate days for the warmists by Christopher Booker

Warmists may be winning the big grants, but they're not winning the argument.

Ever more risibly desperate become the efforts of the believers in global warming to hold the line for their religion, after the battering it was given last winter by all those scandals surrounding the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

One familiar technique they use is to attribute to global warming almost any unusual weather event anywhere in the world. Last week, for instance, it was reported that Russia has recently been experiencing its hottest temperatures and longest drought for 130 years. The head of the Russian branch of WWF, the environmental pressure group, was inevitably quick to cite this as evidence of climate change, claiming that in future "such climate abnormalities will only become more frequent". He didn't explain what might have caused the similar hot weather 130 years ago.

Meanwhile, notably little attention has been paid to the disastrous chill which has been sweeping South America thanks to an inrush of air from the Antarctic, killing hundreds in the continent's coldest winter for years.

In America, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has been trumpeting that, according to its much-quoted worldwide temperature data, the first six months of this year were the hottest ever recorded. But expert analysis on Watts Up With That, the US science blog, shows that NOAA's claimed warming appears to be strangely concentrated in those parts of the world where it has fewest weather stations. In Greenland, for instance, two of the hottest spots, showing a startling five-degree rise in temperatures, have no weather stations at all.
