Thanks to John Cook for boosting the “Our Climate” app by Anthony Watts

WUWT readers may recall last week that the “Our Climate” iPhone app was released and announced here. It has quickly become a best seller on the iTunes store.

It has also quickly become a target.

John Cook, a generally reasonable Aussie who runs a blog oddly titled “skepticalscience” (odd, since it isn’t skeptical, but pushes the consensus) also has an iPhone app. Knowing that he wouldn’t get enough traffic on his blog to effectively smack down this new informational threat, he turned to the Guardian, and was immediately offered a guest essay there.

The title? Climate change denial? There’s an app for that.

How sad that Cook and the Guardian had to resort to such a cheap shot.

Problem is, that essay appears to have backfired as “Our Climate” continues to grow. Right after that Guardian piece by Cook, downloads surged. So much in fact, Apple itself is even promoting it on the iTunes (installed Mac and PC application) front page now!

The Our Climate App will prove to be an enduring tool for all open-minded individuals who yearn for the uncensored truth about the Earth’s weather-climate system.

Dr Willie Soon

“Do you need snappy, accurate and intelligent assessments of the various aspects of the global warming issue? Then check out the Our Climate application – it’s simply the best ‘climate-to-go’ source out there.”

Prof Robert (Bob) Carter
James Cook University
Behind the scenes a veritable who’s-who of the skeptical world has been working away on yet another way to reach people, especially young people

For those of you with iphones, if you want the latest graphs, blog information, or answers to questions at the pub debate, there is an option from the iphone store with dozens of excellent articles of the right size, lots of pictures, graphs, quizes, world-wide polls, and more.

The skeptics community grows stronger through projects like this. Kudos to Lubos, and Willie Soon especially, as well as Richard Lindzen, Roy Spencer, Fred Singer, Henrik Svensmark, Will Happer, Bob Carter, Craig Idso, Paul Reiter but also folks such as yours truly, Lord Christopher Monckton, and Anthony Watts.

The big credit goes to Paul at Aeris Systems in Perth — it’s been his baby and untold hours of work over more than 6 months.

Have American Thinker disproven global warming? by John Cook from UPDATED by Gary Thompson

As they say "every cloud has a silver lining", John Cook at (the site that has put together the iPhone app to spin the Skeptic side of Skepticism see WARNING! New Site set up as an iphone app to put down "Climate Realists" part 1 and part 2) has taken note of the "AGW smoking gun" The Gary Thompson article from the, and seems less confused about what we (us stupid skeptics!) have to say.

So what do we learn from the American Thinker article. Gary Thompson cites peer-reviewed papers but his analysis consists of eyeballing graphs while spurning the peer-reviewed data analysis. This approach leads to the opposite conclusion of the papers' authors. I first encountered Harries 2001 when documenting the empirical evidence for an enhanced greenhouse effect. After reading the paper, I had many questions. Rather than let the gaps in my understanding lead me to think I knew more than the authors, I emailed my questions to the lead author John Harries, an approachable scientist who was forthcoming with prompt and detailed replies. The American Thinker article does not disprove the enhanced greenhouse effect. It does however provide further evidence for the Dunning-Kruger effect.

WARNING! New Site set up as an iphone app to put down "Climate Realists" part 2

There has been a reply to our recent article WARNING! New Site set up as an iphone app to put down "Climate Realists" from The Guardian by Leo Hickman iPhone app pitches climate change science against scepticism

Leo had this to say......and we have highlighted what we consider to be the skewed logic of a AGW supporter in bold green.

Deniers queue up to lambast Skeptical Science application developed by solar physicist John Cook. Now there's a surprisep

I'm not sure this is going to quell the climate wars raging at present, but it's an interesting development nonetheless. An Australian solar physicist called John Cook, who runs the popular Skeptical Science website, has developed an app which "lets you use an iPhone or iPod to view the entire list of skeptic arguments as well as (more importantly) what the science says on each argument". So the next time you're caught at the fag end of a wedding reception in an interminable one-way conversation with a reactionary uncle who's boring on about how "the climate's always changed", just switch on this app, hand them your iPhone, and proceed to the bar.

In reality, of course, this is hardly likely to win round any sceptic, least of all your worse-for-wear uncle who, with or without the evidence presented to him by this app, will still continue to swear blind that climate change is a fiction made up by a clandestine world government-in-waiting because he's read about it all on his favourite blog, which just so happens to be frequented by an army of other reactionary uncles. One suspects this app will only act to increase the polarisation between the two sides of this "debate". (Still think a debate's going on? When was the last time you heard someone from either side say, "Thank you for this information. Actually, I'd never thought of it like that before. I'm now prepared to change my mind on climate change.")

WARNING! There is an iphone app trying to put down what we have to say under the heading of "Skeptical Science".

We need as many of you as possible to promote that this iphone app is yet another attempt to discredit "Climate Realists".

We can only hope the general public can see through this as a cheap trick to prop up the FAILED SCIENCE OF MAN MADE CLIMATE CHANGE.

Climate Realists need another iphone app that shows our side of the argument as it is, rather then what a supporter AGW thinks it is!

Please send this message to all known friendly sites that support our side.

I think ALL of the CO2 in the Earth's Atmosphere is from man.
I'm not sure how much "Man Made" CO2 is in the Earth's Atmosphere.
There is .04% CO2 in the Earth's Atmosphere and of that "Man" has added an extra 4% (1 part in 62,500)
