CLICK to read BBC above report CO2 'drove end to last ice age'
by Jonathan Amos, Science correspondent, BBC News

See below link to the TV Documentary "The Great Global Warming Swindle" and listen to what is said about CO2 "following" the Earth warming.

We have been here before and no doubt be here again........over the long term, an active Sun warms the Earth and equally over a long term an inactive Sun cools the Earth. When the Earth cools, the co2 returns back to the oceans and ice, and when the Earth warms the co2 returns back to the atmosphere from the Oceans and ice. It's a cycle that has been repeated many times before and will be repeated over and over again, long after the BBC and Nature have been removed from repeating the "effect" being the "cause" again!

What is being said in the latest report is that co2 somehow makes the Sun active!!!

Dear All,

I have finally got round to starting a blog on the politics behind global warming (and some other stuff).

Poor Al Gore.   Global warming is fast turning into a joke.  From the jolly Hockey Stick (remember that one) to the topsy-turvy ice core data (what a howler), from the laughable computer models, to the dodgy temperature records … not a single scrap of global warming garbage has escaped the blistering, excoriating scrutiny of McIntyre, Lindzen, Christy, Spencer, Singer, Carter & Co.  The awkward-squad army of sceptics have kicked and trampled this theory to death, not once, but a hundred times over.
And yet, for all the onslaught of reasoned, scientific argument, the global warming beast refuses to lie down.  Like some beleagured, maniac cyborg from the future, it just goes on and on.  We all know the reason.  The edifice of global warming is built not on science, but politics.

But what kind of politics?  This is the first in a series of blog pieces to explore the green politics behind global warming .....

John O'Sullivan: Time for a Skeptic Documentary Made on Our Terms

Last night I watched with anger and frustration yet another shabby one hour television mockumentary put out on BBC television to ridicule climate skeptics - this time Lord Monckton was in the cross-hairs. Amazingly, 'Meet the Sceptics’ was even more biased than last week’s propaganda film fronted by Nobel Prize winner and President of the Royal Society, Sir Paul Nurse on 'Horizon.'

I've asked Martin Durkin to work with us to make an updated version of 'The Great Global Warming Swindle’ and he has confirmed his willingness to help, especially if Tim Ball is part of it. Can I please ask that you register your support to help Martin, Tim, me and others work towards this goal so that later in the year we can put the broader sceptic case more fairly in a 60-minute film under our own editorial control? Once we can confirm there is strong support for this we can begin to look at funding requirements.

Martin Durkin is a hero of mine, not just for his courage in making the first mainstream British TV programme seriously to challenge the idea of Man Made Global Warming – The Great Global Warming Swindle – but also for the equally brilliant programme he made on our eye-wateringly vast national debt, Britain’s Trillion Pound Horror Story.

So I’m delighted to be able to put up a guest post of his on the subject of a recent drubbing he had from top celebrity particle-physicist Brian Cox. Cox (not to be confused with the scary man who played the original Hannibal Lecter) has become one of TV’s favourite science pin-ups because not only does he look a bit like a pop star but he actually was one once in D:Ream (unofficial court composers to New Labour thanks to their party anthem Things Can Only Get Better). Unfortunately, it seems, there are one or two things that our Brian doesn’t quite get about Climategate and peer review: as Durkin will now explain. (In bold, I’m afraid because I can’t be bothered to strip out all the “strongs” from html)

How The Broadcasting Regulator Sidestepped An Inconvenient Truth by Tony Newbery

This story begins with Ofcom, the public authority that enforces broadcasting legislation in the UK, telling me that Al Gore’s film, An Inconvenient Truth (AIT) is not a ‘factual documentary’, and ends with them deciding that climate change - the subject of the film - is not a matter relating to current public policy. You may well wonder how this could have happened, and it will take some time to explain.

To start with, we need to go back to March 2007, when Channel 4 broadcast a film called The Great Global Warming Swindle (GGWS). This was Martin Durkin’s take on the arguments underlying global warming scepticism and it caused a furore in the environmental movement. In response, a group of warmist scientists and activists, including Sir John Houghton, William Connolly, Joe Smith, and Bob Ward, lodged a 176 page complaint with Ofcom. After sixteen months of deliberation, the regulator published a decision that made a couple of token criticisms of the film, but threw out most of the grounds for complaint. The warmists were very disappointed, but the decision made sense.

There were two sections of the Broadcasting Code, that GGWS risked falling foul of:

Royal Society launches new climate change guide by Pallab Ghosh, Science correspondent, BBC News

Image AttachmentThe UK's national academy of science, the Royal Society, has launched a new guide to the science of climate change.

The guide has been updated partly as a result of complaints by 43 of the Royal Society's members who were concerned about the tone of its previous guide.

That was a point-by-point rebuttal of arguments put forward by those who doubt climate change is man-made.

But for many members of the Society, it was too strident and did not fully acknowledge areas of uncertainty.

It was published in 2007 when the arguments put forward by sceptics were growing and shortly after the broadcast of the Channel 4 documentary "the Great Global Warming Swindle".

'To greens, I was worse than a child abuser'

From The Independent

Martin Durkin tells 'The Independent on Sunday' why he stands by his film in the face of continued criticism.

'To greens, I was worse than a child abuser'

The fuss over Swindle is a bit like Fatal Attraction: every time I think it's over, up pops Glenn Close, looking rather like George Monbiot of The Guardian in a wig, and takes another swipe at me with a kitchen knife.

The latest dramatic episode is Ofcom's adjudication on the many complaints about the film.

Swindle went out more than a year ago and ordinary viewers loved it: the duty log was swamped with calls, 6:1 in support. Evidently many of them thought this global warming stuff was baloney, and were rather relieved that someone had stood up and said as much.
Why does Channel 4 seem to be waging a war against the greens?

This is the summary outcome from the Guardian by George Monbiot for the Ofcom ruling to the Channel4 documentary "The Great Global Warming Swindle", Channel 4 to be censured over controversial climate film

Ofcom decided that it could not rule on the matter of accuracy. While news programmes are expected to be accurate, other factual programmes are not, and Ofcom "only regulates misleading material where that material is likely to cause harm or offence."

As Channel 4 is once again fiercely criticised by the TV watchdog for distorting the views of climate scientists, George Monbiot lays bare the channel's shameful history of misleading its viewers on global warming.

So here we go again. For the second time, Channel 4 has been fiercely criticised by the broadcasting regulator for a programme attacking environmental science. For the second time, the director was Martin Durkin.

Ten years ago, his series Against Nature was found to have misled his interviewees about "the content and purpose of the programmes" and distorted their views "through selective editing". Now Ofcom has ruled that the programme he made last year — The Great Global Warming Swindle — treated two scientists and an organisation (the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) unfairly. For the second time, Channel 4 will have to make an embarrassing primetime statement.
