WELL, so much for the 2012 apocalypse. If the ancient Mayans ever knew anything about the future, they made a serious miscalculation. The same fate has befallen the international climate change emergency brigade. About $1 billion and 18 "Kyoto" meetings later, the world has agreed to do nothing much more than meet again.
How did this frightening climate threat dissolve into scientific uncertainty and political confusion? What of the many billions of dollars of wasted public resources? Some might blame the "sceptics", the "merchants of doubt" or the "deniers". Others point to the global financial crisis.
We can say for certain that many hesitant individuals overcame the pressures of group-think, intimidation and tribal disapproval to have a closer look at the relationship between real science, politics and business.

A stand-off over how many billions of dollars wealthy countries should stump up to help poorer nations cope with climate change over the next three years is prompting concern that fresh UN climate negotiations may be headed for collapse. The talks in the Qatari capital of Doha are entering their final five days. But they risk collapse, according to some negotiators, unless developed countries formally agree to commit to as much as $60bn in fresh funding by 2015. --Pilita Clark - ft.com

With an El Niño on the way, 2013 could be the warmest year on record. But the climate-denial machine will keep on churning
IT HAS been another "normal" global-warming summer in the northern hemisphere. The US sweltered in the hottest July on record, following the hottest spring on record. More than 60 per cent of the contiguous US is suffering from drought, as are parts of eastern Europe and India. In the Arctic, sea ice cover is at a record low and the Greenland ice sheet shows what the US National Snow and Ice Data Center calls "extraordinary high melting". Global land temperatures for May and June were the hottest since records began in the 19th century.
Meanwhile, El Niño conditions are forecast to develop in the tropical Pacific Ocean, warming up ocean surface temperatures. Some observers have predicted that this will lead to record-breaking global temperatures next year.
If El Niño does arrive and temperature records are broken, there will inevitably be much discussion of the causes of the warming. So now is a good time to sort signal from noise in the global temperature records.

Al Gore. Heesh…This guy is an object lesson in why it is not just stupid, but dangerous to vote for liberals, Democrats, and other leftist golems. In spite of a growing mountain of evidence that “global warming,” aka “climate change,” is nothing but a concoction of the globalist left, a fraud, perpetrated on the world to panic people into submitting to imposition of draconian neo-fascism in order to “save the planet,” good ol’ Al still hysterically insists it’s real. Al, like his radical watermelon adherents (green on the outside, red on the inside), would have us all living in caves, going barefoot, as it were, so as not to leave a “carbon footprint,” whatever the heck that is.
Al made some serious Big Cash from his fiction disaster movie, with dire predictions that if the earth were to warm, the health and welfare of humans, especially poor ones, would plummet, and the Earth would come to an end. Supported by authoritarian leftists and fascists of varying stripes, he ginned up enough fear to get himself a Nobel Peace Prize, in 2007. This is a prize that has become a bad joke, given its recipients over the past few years, but that is another story.
Sanity, however, seems to be returning. Although Al Bore…er…Gore seems determined to go down with it, lots of the other rats are abandoning the sinking ship. The latest is James Lovelock, a “futurist,” meaning a person who makes bushels of Big Cash by scaring the public with dire predictions – sound familiar? – who is also the creator of the Gaia “theory” that the Earth is a single, living organism, i.e., Mother Earth, a notion many “environmentalists” have turned into a religious cult belief. Said Lovelock to the always unbiased MSNBC:

I used to write obituaries when I was a young journalist and I daresay they are one of the best read sections of any newspaper. We have arrived at a time when the obituaries for global warming (now falsely called climate change) are increasing.
The October 25th edition of The Wall Street Journal sports an editorial titled “The Post-Global Warming World
” commenting on the fact that the 17th annual United Nations-sponsored climate change conference in November is likely to be an even greater flop than recent ones. Few, if any, nations will sign on to the huge hoax of reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) to save the world from burning to a crisp.
Considering the long years of media-driven drivel about global warming, the hoax should have been over by now, given the exposure in 2009 of thousands of emails between the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) conspirators and growing body of evidence that everything they asserted was a great steaming pile of horse manure.
